im still trying to decide what i want to do for front suspension, leaves will be easy but i like the idea of coils or air shocks.

my problem when it comes to links is that the driver side tube only shows about one inch. its going to take a shit ton of cutting to get a bracket over there.

not scared to cut it, just wondered what idea's you guys had.

if i end up going coils i think i will stay with a radius arm setup,or sort of what the jeeps do with the 3 link radius arm setup. or i could also buy some wedges and extend some factory 44 radius arms.

so give me your opinions, im just in the planning stages now but i want low and wide.

i'm thinking airshocks would be the best bet
a coilover of some kind.. and linked. do it right the first time

Make sure it's a 60. The D50 looks identical from the outside. Pull the cover off and have a look.

^^^^ He already showed the part number in his build thread.....its a 60

I would probably use coils and do a radius arm set up, thats mainly because that is the suspension set up I know the most about

I would say plan/price out a few different options. Shit adds up fast when you start to consider every thing that goes into a swap like this: new seals/bearings, brakes, steering, new gears, lockers, suspension, drive shafts, 8 lug wheels, tires, keeping the UB-hubs? going to continue pulling that trailer? etc, etc.
Your axle is already set up for leaves, outboard them and use the $ saved and buy new wheels and tires or other something else to make your rig more capable and get back out on the trail.

leaves arent totally out of the equation yet...like i said still doing some figuring to see what ill do.

in all reality with leaves it would do everything i need to do, around here you dont need a shit ton of flex. and i like the simplicity and such.

I like the idea of leaves on a sas, unless its a D30.

Although I like Bones's setup (yes they are both B2s) and he runs coils.

i went out and measured real quick, center to center on spring pads is 37.5 and the front frame rails are about 30.5 wide

IIRC '86+ Ford D60 spring pad width is 36.5" my 91 frame is also about 30.5 at the horns and a little narrower near the firewall. Set up the shackles out back for increased approach angle and better ride.

whatever i do ill deffinantly be stretching the front for more approach.

Drill and tap the spring perch and bolt down a 3/8" plate with tapered Allen screws and weld them in. Then use that pad and what little tube you have to make the lower mount for a 3 link setup. You can also tie the C/O or air shock mount in there as well. You'll have lots of room on the passenger side for the upper link, just have to rework yur exhaust around it.

one of my buddys rigs on fullsizebronco with leaf sprung d60, his can still flex pretty good. and like you said its simple and easier to set up than the radius arms, coil perches, trac bar, etc.

But all in all go with what ever you have and want to do. I had both axles and chose leaf as it would not kill my pocket book cheaper for more flex for cost to cost.

The problem with leafing a 99+ diff into an RBV is that the spring perches are uber wide and the diff is offset way more then the older diffs.... they have a HUGE turning radius, which would be terrible under a short wheelbase rig. I vote links, leafs that flex enough to be useful offroad are gonna require a track bar to keep it stable on the hwy, and a traction bar to keep from twisting them up especially when running larger rubber.
