I just changed the plugs in my 06 ranger and now it seems like its lost a lot of horsepower and its really slugish, but its not sputtering or stalling. Its not misfiring iv checked that. the rpm's stay around 2,000 when before they stayed around 3-3500. and also their gaped to 55.0 and the manual says 51.0 to 57.0 idk if that could be causing it anyone have any idea what going on?:icon_confused:

My first thought when i read your title was is all your plugs gaped properly or are the wires all attached all the way it may be not be firing on all cylinders. Next thing to look at is the distibuter loose did it move while taking and putting the wires on and off, and screwed the timing??

Its an '06 Ranger, mclaren. No distributor, its EDIS.

I do agree though to check all the wires, make sure they're all connected properly. Also check to make sure that all your plugs are correctly installed.

what type of plug did you use and which motor is in your Ranger?

Oh yea I forget about that stuff I can't afford new rides so all my cars and trucks have distibuters. my bad. Thats whay i stick with first and second gen rangers and if I ever swap motors it'll be a carbed V8.

I hear ya... I'm exactly the opposite. Dont know jack about carb'd motors, but I know lots about distributor-less ignition and fuel injection... :D

The plugs are Autolite Double Platinum $25 for them i didn't go cheapo, so maybe i should get new plug wires? about how do they cost?

Check make sure your spout plug didnt come loose. or pull the spout plug start the truck and then replace the spout plug and make sure you can hear the timing advance. Check the secureness of the plug wires and mabe open the gap to .56 Seat of the pants horsepower is wierd, when I added long tubes to my stang seat of the pants power disapeared, but I was pushing about 5 hp more with the better airflow. (headers combined with other mods previeiously installed) Its possible that your running smoother and just have the feel of less power? Watch your fuel mileage for a while and see what that tells you. Otherwise swap back to a standard platinum plug nothing crazy.

My dads friend is a ford mechanic, he said he thinks its the catalytic converter...idk about that but what do you guys think.:icon_confused:

Oh you didn't change wires they usally run about $35-45 bucks for the chepos. but again i'm going for 1st and 2nd gens.

I ran a 2006 ranger with a 4.0 by auto zone chepest they have is $32 (duralast) most expensive is $62 (Bosch)

Yeah if your 2006 cat is fawked then what is my 1993 cat? I doubt its that. It could be any number of things. run it by a shop and have them scan it, its obd2 or newer. BUt it aint the cat. Not from a plug change. THINK HARD was there anything else you changed when you did the plugs? fuel addative? seafoam?

nope their all i changed, im thinking about gaping them to 5.7 bc the ones i took out were 6.0 but they were wore down some ya know, heck that may make it worse but its wort a try i guess:woot:

i would make sure all the plus are actually tight. well.... i guess that would cause a misfire if the plug wasnt getting a good connection. were those the same plus that came out of the truck?

Did you unhook the battery to "clear" the computer? I am not sure the newer Rangers need this done but it makes a big difference on my 87 whenever I change something.

it cant be if it just happened right after you changed plugs if it was a remarkable difference the instant the new plugs were in are you sure wires are runnin to the right plugs?
