I need to swap out the engine in my 06' Ranger and I'm looking at remanufactured engines instead of going the cheaper route with a used engine with low miles... Can some of you Gear heads help me out with pros/cons or either route and point me in the direction of a reputable company that deals with Remanufactured engines.
When I do searches on the Google machine lots of ads are listing powertraincompany, sandjengines, jasperengines, etc... They all seem to toot their own horns about how great their engines are. Im looking to get the best bang for my buck. Thoughts? Thanks for your help

welcome. i have no info to help but hopefully someone else does

@superj Thanks man. I've had several Ranger projects that Ive flipped but this one I wanna keep for awhile.

Out of the Companies you listed, I've only heard of "Jaspers". Some say they're great, others say they would never buy another one.

Welcome to TRS :)

Time and warranty come into that question
Check if "new/rebuilt" engine warranty applies to buyer installing the engine vs a shop, some(ALL) warranties have fine print
If you are going to have a shop do the R&R then have them get the replacement engine, so ANY warranty issue can't be passed around with you in the middle

If you are doing the R&R yourself get something in writing that the warranty will be valid for "self install"

Time, call local machine shops and get price on a full rebuild, that's what you are buying from any of the online resellers, they just have a matching engine already rebuilt so saves you time
So it takes longer to have your current engine rebuilt locally, but...................if there is a problem with the "bought online engine" then time difference is no longer valid because of the back and forth and repacking and reshipping of the engines

For online just read reviews, and remember most people do not waste time on positive reviews, they just go drive the vehicle around with new engine, lol, so a few bad reviews is not a bad thing

I just replaced my 4.0 with a create motor from ford. I let ford dealer install it . 3 year unlimited mileage.
I went with the dealer install just in case I need the warranty. And it was not cheap

Unfortunately that engine is not easy or inexpensive to rebuild, largely due to the way the cams are driven, so it takes a few special tools to do it right. So I would not have a local shop rebuild it unless they have previous experience doing rebuilds on the 4.0 sohc engine. The big rebuilders you listed are going to be similar to each other - they are production rebuilders so most of the engines will be fine but a few will have issues, so make sure that the warranty is not voided by you installing or anything that you do to/with the truck.

Are you comfortable saying how not cheap it was? I'm at 200k & my rear timing chain is starting to rap so I gotta weigh my options (new timing chains vs new engine..)
