So I already have a nice sound system in my truck and I want to upgrade the door and rear speakers. Right now I have a Memphis pro comp 1000.1 amp and a 12" sub which does the job pretty good for what I have in it. Does anyone recommend a certain brand speaker or anyone think some are better than others. I know I could spend the extra money and get a good name brand 6x8 but I'd rather be a cheapo and not splurge on speakers that I don't need i.e. I don't need 6x8's for bass since I have a 12" sub. I more so need high and mid ranges more. The factory speakers do good but I know aftermarkets would be better. So, any suggestions or tips would be good. 3-ways over 2-ways? Thanks.

Last time I did speakers. Sony three-ways were a great bang for the buck. You should be able to get them at Walmart or an electronics store.

Doing things wrong, until I get it right.
I was always a fan of Blaupunkt. I had a pair of those and a EB 12" sub in my hatchback Mustang. Punch 40 on the sub and an alpine V12 amp for high's and mids. 2" dome tweeters on the pillars.

I found some decent deals on ebay like 4 speakers for around 50-60 bucks. I just know that there's a lot of people who have replaced these speakers and I just want to know if there was any that were way better than factory. It's sucks because I've had 4 brand new JVC 6" round speakers for like 10 years that are still in the box lol. I just don't want to spend money on speakers that I wouldn't even notice a difference.

Pretty much anything is better than factory except maybe the junk they sell at auto parts stores. As long as it’s a name brand you recognize, it should an improvement.

Infinity Reference series is great bang for your buck. They aren't the bassiest, but like you say, you already have a sub. Get the 5.25" versions - round speakers often perform better and have less distortion than the oblong versions.

I just installed a pair of Infinity Primus ($59.00 on Amazon) in my 2000 Ranger and am very happy with the sound. The only downside is that they're a little short on the top and bottom to fit the stock speaker holes, so I had to use some rope caulk as a gasket.

I used Pioneer G series 6x8 in my truck, which has the Pioneer stereo upgrade from the factory (subwoofer in center console). They seem to pair well with the subwoofer, and deliver good mid and high range.

I think they were like 75 bucks for all 4 speakers and the wiring harness adapters.

More important than the brand, is to match the speaker to the output of the stereo you have. You shouldn't get a speaker that can take 500 watts if the stereo only puts out 50.

Does your amp just power the sub?

For what it's worth, a bit of trimming lets you fit 6x9's in the rear doors. Opens up your options some. Also, agreed with the above that Infinity Primus is an excellent speaker for the money.

3-way/2-way VS. single: A single sends the sound through the same cone as the bass which as you can hear from the stock speakers when the bass hits they tend to distort the mids and high frequency's. A 2-way adds a second mid/high speaker which combats the distortion but still the highs have a dependency on the mid not distorting to keep highs from sounding off to the trained ear. A 3-way adds a separate tweeter for just high frequency sounds, like symbols and electronic sounds as an example, and stops and high distortion from any mid distortion. This system works very well for automobiles due to not needing all the sound to be thrown all in one direction where a single excels, like for mic testing.

Any 2/3-way will be a major improvement over stock, no matter if you have an after market radio or stock with or without an amp to power them. FYI the stock units have a 25W speaker mated to them so if running a stock head unit an amp may be required to keep the stock look but most head units are now pushing 50W per channel so without an amp stay slightly above this. I personally went with 80W RMS speakers with a 50W per channel radio and am hard pressed to get them to distort because of over powering, but do distort because all radios distort sound because of being amplified over 66%-75% volume.

I snagged a set of these: https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/Speakers/A-Series/TS-A6880F

My review with a Sony Xplod head unit rated at 52x4 Watts is they are not bad but could use a slight boost in power to reach peak performance but over all sound much better than the stock speakers. They could use a bit better mid speaker quality but at around $50 USD they are a great bang for the buck. I did a 4 speaker swap and can say that, with this head deck, they are quieter but sound quality trumps the perceived loudness deficit which is rectified with 4 channel low wattage amp.

My system, half out of commission ATM due to frying my 1000W amp, only really lacks a slight bit of mids but keep in mind that not all people can hear the differences that I can due to playing music on a guitar I have a trained ear for the sound. If you are an audiophile with an ear for proper sound these you should stay away from but if you really can not tell that much of a difference in half a fret of sound then these will soot the standard music lover.

I think you're backwards on the way single/2/3 ways work there.

A single would be like a component unit that handles one frequency range. Two and three ways attempt to do everything in one unit by stacking the tweeter over the main cone, etc.
