I guess we were ahead of our time. When we lived in Africa we did the Overland adventure thing. I grew up in the Congo and Kenya from 63-69. Since we lived where there was wildlife in our yards everyday it never bothered us to go out in the Land Rovers to travel for a 300-500 mile trip and watch the wildlife at the game preserves and the rivers. Our Land Rovers were Defender 90 series and could go anywhere. We had two of them. A 1964 my dad bought used and a 1966 my dad bought new. They had tents that were attached to the rooftop that you can open up to form a really nice camping area. You could walk around in it when the tent was opened. Lots of head room and a very sturdy base. The tents could be detatched when you did not need them.

I wish I could afford to do the overland thing. I've always thought it would be an awesome adventure.
