Hello TRS!

Long time listener first time caller. I have a 98 Ranger 3.0 w/ 4r44e automagic. Theoretically, can I replace the 4r44e with a later model, say 2004, 5r44e?

I'm not talking about changing the pcm, or anything else, just the physical transmission. My understanding is the 5r44e would behave just like a 4r44e in this case, without problems. Has anyone done this swap, is this correct? Is there a potential problem with the PATS system from a later model Ranger?

Thanks,
C$

My credo
If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical problem
1997 they all went to 5 speeds. Either 5R44E,5R55E. Will have no effect on the PATS. Not sure if the 98 uses output sensor in case or diff. The 2004 will be a sensor in the rear of the case. Others here will know for sure. Good luck.
