I have found a cheap 1999 Ford Ranger with a blown engine so its perfect for a v8 swap. I cant find any Explorers for sale near me but I was able to find a 1990 Ford F150, v8, RWD, and manual. Could this work as my donor vehicle or will I run into problems? Thank you.

The front accessories of the 5.0 explorer are shortened to make it fit into the engine bay. F150/mustangs are longer and more of a problem making everything fit. As said it can be done. Explorer is just extremely easy being ford already designed to work in the explorer.

Intake is huge to get stuffed under a Ranger hood too.
