Two questions would a 1994 rear end from Ltd work in a ranger? What rear end do they have and would they have disk brakes? Thanks joey!

The Crown Vics (Not really an LTD after 86) used an 8.8, probably a 31-spline, since they were V8s.

It won't be bolt in, as the width is likely different from a Ranger and the Crown Vic used rear coils, rather than leaves, but they did have rear discs by that point.

EDIT: A quick Rock Auto search shows only 28 spline shafts available for that car.

Yeah, that body style was 28 spline 8.8, I had a '92 Town Car that blew a rear axle before I got it, still have the brakes off of that somewhere... It is 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern but as stated above not near a bolt in and no real strength improvement...

If it is old enough to be an LTD not a crown vic then it is likely a 9" I think, rusty might know he used to have one or was that an LTD II?

Well the last generation of a regular LTD was something akin to a long nose RWD Tempo. It was also using the 8.8.

The last generation of the Crown Vic LTD that used the 8.8 as well.

I don't know when these cars stopped using the 9", but it was before 86.

My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
The big LTD "crown victoria" quit useing the 9in circa 84.

And scott, yes, i HAVE an LTD II :icon_thumby:

Not to mention, a vic rear is a poor choice for a ranger swap. To wide, uses coil springs, and geared ridiculiously high (2.73 in civi versions, popo's had 3.23 or 3.55)

I hit a deer last year and just found out it bent the left TTB. I would like to know if a TTB from an 87 Bronco II will fit my truck ?

First off, you'd be better to make your own thread in the RBV axles section

Second, how did you bend a front TTB axle hitting a deer? I ran my passenger front tire directly into a log that was sitting in a ditch lengthwise (in snow) at ~20mph and didn't bend anything but the radius arm crossmember and the radius arm thrust washer...

Third, no, you need a Dana 35 TTB front axle from a '90.5 to '97 Ranger or '91-94 Explorer, and any axle older than '95 will need to have your outer components added to them as you should have dual piston calipers that have different outers (spindle is the same, but the part that goes to the ball joints is different) but everything else is the same.

well...they are easily jumpable and capable of taking lots of abuse as long as they are rolling and not under loaded hi traction power.

i ran over dear regularly. occasionally fawking up steering linkage and beams and pivot mounts and arms ect.... not every time...but quite regularly had to tweak stuff once i got a chance....

still do run over dear regulalrly. except i dont have pivot mounts anymore and just bend up the steering and leafs so far instead of destroying it at times.

but i could twist up ttb componants with just engine power and 35-38 inch tires climbing on stuff, let alone bending up stuff in a collision...glad you never had a problem.

without seeing the alignment specs and beam i cant say for sure...but under most circumstances with minor bending i would tweak the beam back to better shape and/or modify the alignment settings to maximize handling and mitigate excess tire wear untill its cracked up enough i dont trust it or leaking enough to piss me off.

mine were always tweaked because i refused to put the time and money into beefing them up when they were more plentiful. with stock power and sub 35 inch tires with no locker...its not too hard to work with.

cant knock a guy for wanting the best and straightest beam one could fit either...

as to the op....no benefit in a ltd axle for the reasons already stated..

hard to beat the explorer though....even with drum brakes.

I understand they can bend, my main experience is with a 8:1 compression 4 cylinder so the torque isn't there :). Honestly I didn't check if my beam was bent and it's never seen an alignment shop, so who knows... the alignment is way off but the tires wear decent for a lifted TTB assembled with random parts and aligned with a calibrated eyeball and a tape measure...

Ok, I take back my comments on my beam not bending... it's toast! The passenger shaft has eaten about 3/16" into the beam (shaft looks pretty good other than scuffed). I know for a fact after the tree incident there was clearance but that definitely pushed it back some and it's been migrating after that since it was weakened...

Apparently I need to investigate things a little more often... Luckily I have a spare beam, should be an easy swap, just gotta open up the window and do a little plating to help this situation from happening in the future...

I finally found a brand new L/S TTB. A member of The Ranger Station had it and only charged me $75 plus Shipping. Thank you for your help !
