I was curious as to what rear end gearing I have so I looked under the truck and found a tag that said '373'......among other numbers. I would assume 3.73, then. Is that good? I have a '94 with 2.3/5spd, extended cab, 2wd.

Sounds right, 3.73 are geared towards economy rather than power. Look on your door sticker where it says Axle then look up that number in the Tech Library

I wish I had door stickers..........:annoyed:Someone either took them off or painted over them when they put these different doors on this truck. Why do people have to be so hard on things??? Oh, well.....

depend on the use u give your truck 3.73 will be a good ratio. if you drive it with street tires, like a normal street truck its the best gearing., keeping tires in stock size of course.

now if u want to haul some heavy stuff or a trailer, or planning to get all terrains, taller tires, lifts and suck. ull better go 4.10 or lower ratio(bigger number) to compensate or it will become a slow dog

as long as the 373 was in the lower row of text next to the bolt head then yes, it's 3.73:1 ratio.

I had 3.08's with 25" tires, wasn't horrible, then 3.73's with 28" tires which I liked, then 4.10's with 31" tires and that was/is kinda doggy. My explorer with 3.73's and 29" tires is a nice combo, but the 4.0 has a VERY different power band though...
