The Focus is a front wheel drive and the Ranger is a rear wheel drive.
Rarely does an engine designed to be mounted in a FWD vehicle share anything with one designed for a RWD vehicle even if they are the same brand and displacement.
You may(but I doubt it) get lucky with some parts like throttle body, head, and possibly some internal components.
Even if a part like the head will bolt on you may have issues with motor mounting points.
Many FWD cars will put a mounting point on the head and RWD does not.

mostly true but then you have to remember the vulcan 3.0 where the only thing different is the head gasket and exhaust manafolds

Just trade it in for a v6 if you want more power.

The base V6 (3.0) wouldn't be worth getting. But the 4.0L SOHC would be a huge difference. Not to mention, you can have this, with an extended cab and 4 wheel drive. But, I know this thread isn't about purchasing a new truck.

Doug at bamachips.com has some tunes created for the duratech 2.3L engines. Check him out. You'll have to run premium fuel in order to use the more powerful tunes. Most people have some luck with a cat-back exhaust, too. This won't provide any significant improvement, but you'll most likely gain throttle response and a wee bit of power in the upper rpms.

The 2.3L Duratec in the Ranger is manufactured in North America. The rest are from one of several other countries, depending on the origin of the vehicle.

Depends on what you want to do. I think all internal components can be interchanged. External stuff will interchange and you can swap heads, manifolds, etc. But computer compatibility would probably become an issue with manifold swapping and "packaging" issues might be deadly. Motor mount locations are the same, but there are mounting differences, confined mostly to the timing chain cover, but they can be swapped.
