ive installed my 91 exp 4.0 used my 88 al4d was just rebuilt.
i tested it today and no overdrive ,can some direct me to a trouble shooting or
wiring diagram. ive connected all the trans wiring from the 91 exp all the plugs
but the schematics i have doesnt show enough?
any appreciated steve

I can't help with the transmission as I know nothing about the automatics, but here is the '91 4.0 diagram I have

1988 A4LD should have a 3 wire plug on drivers side in front of shift linkage.

Center wire should be red and have 12volts with key on, check for that

3-4 shift(OD) should be an orange/yellow wire and it runs to pin 52 on computer
TCC lock is a purple/yellow wire and it runs to pin 53 on computer

The solenoids get 12volts with key on
The Computer GROUNDS pins 52 or 53 to activate each solenoid as needed

Computer has several grounds and they are NOT shared internally, so make sure all grounds are connected and good

Pin numbers changed for automatics, grounds are still valid

You said that the a4ld was rebuilt but have you seen it work and know that 4th worked ok?
