I cant wait for these to start popping up on the used market. Cast iron block, large displacement, port injection, and 6 bolt mains...

I wish that theory would trickle down in to smaller stuff.

Doubt it ever will. The general public doesnt want something with more less 30 yr old tech.

I eat the shit up.

I remember watching a video once about the demise of the crown vic, as great of a car as it was someone stated "Who wants to buy a car today that is from the 80s?"

But now if ford would just bring back a 6 speed manual, leaf sprung front, and true lockouts, and twist it all with this thing in a reg cab/long box 250/350...youd have a winner in my book.

Does the EPA even test 3/4 ton+ trucks yet?

Everybody but Ford (and maybe Toyota) are still running pushrod engines. :dntknw:

The power is nice out of a mod motor but dang they are huge and kind of worthless for a lot of swaps.

No. Anything over 8800 GVW (or somewhere near that) is exempt from EPA/CAFE bullshit.

Unfourtantly they arent exempt from smog though. Otherwise we could have streets full of these monsters pumping out 6-700ft lbs and displaceing 9 liters with no cats, EFI, or any other useless nonsense.

I think they go by GVW, I don't see anything bigger than a half ton on fueleconomy.gov

More like 1972 LA, where you're coughing your lungs up from all the smog.

I wouldn't call EFI useless. Try starting a carbeureted engine at -40. IF it starts without being plugged in, it won't run very well, if at all. An EFI engine will be hard to start, but will start, and run. I've had both, including a 1976 Toyota Corolla with a manual choke. THAT was fun to keep running at -40 until it warmed up a wee bit! If you push the choke in too far too fast, it stalls. Not to mention that below -7*C, the four carbed vehicles I had had to be plugged in. All of my fuel injected vehicles could go to -20 or colder without being plugged in, and they'd still start.

Yeah, it was -38C here last night. The 50/50 antifreeze I carry in the back of my truck was a slushy. I thought I had my ranger plugged in, it started but it took a bit to warm up. Today I discovered the plug at the engine was disconnected....I would have been spraying [ether] and praying if it was carbed.
