Anybody put a Black Widow muffler on their Ranger? It sounds wicked on YouTube! Thinking of putting one (not sure which one) on me 2.5L 2000 Ranger.

Ive yet to hear a 4 cylinder that I think "sounds good" with a loud exhaust. But I'm old fashioned. If all you care about is how it sounds than go for it. Dont expect power gains but if the bee fart sound tickles your fancy then go for it.

Edit: just looked at them. Id be impressed if one of those Chinese peices of crap lasted a year before rotting off your truck.

Been mulling over Dynomax and Gibson as well. So far Dynomax is in the lead.

I know gibson to be decent at least in material quality. Cant comment on sound. The thing is most of these companies produce a product in blueprint theory only, then have it made in china in bulk. The "stainless" steel is paper thin 24 gauge polished "steel" that looks awesome online but rusts instantly and falls apart like toilet paper. For legal reasons I cant name names but our shop was once hired to repair 1200 high end exhaust systems made in china that were all crooked. After paying us labor fees of $120 an hour, the company still made money on those garbage exhaust systems... That's how dirt cheap these piles of crap are from china

Mufflers are not rocket science, well... I mean they sort of a are. But dont buy crap just to make your truck sound "neat". Buy quality. You have a 2.5... Itll never be fast, just make it last long.

Thank you for the advice Sir! Your words remind me of my father. I'm not concerned with speed. It's plenty fast enough as it is. A blast to drive!

This was my father's truck. I was with him on the day he bought it and was it's first passenger. He wanted to make it look nice, so he bought bed rails. Now, after he passed away, the truck is mine. I want to keep the truck nice and do the things he talked about. He wanted a glasspack though...

I'd stick with known good brands like flomaster, thrush, magnaflow and so on. Yes they cost more but you will get what you pay for and you wont be disappointed and they will last a lot longer too.

Sound advice from Dirtman and 91stranger. If you want a specific sound, go with a trusted brand, especially if you want to keep the truck for a while. but dual exhaust and/or glass packs make a 4banger sound silly IMO.

Break it right the first time. Fix it better the next time.
I've never seen a truck that had the spare tire mounted under the engine.

I had a 93 wrangler with the anemic (!!!!!!)2.5l...put a dynamax turbo muffler on it and believe it or not it did NOT sound like riceburner.....an 8 cylinder def not, but was acceptable. Believe it or not, the parts guy at the counter recommended it to me bc that was his setup

Yeah. There’s a dude on YouTube massey706(?) who put a dynomax system on his 2.3l. Sounds pretty good. I think I’ve narrowed it down to Gibson or Dynomax. Leaning toward Gibson though.

they are hand made here in the usa with really good materials. i know the guy who builds em. itll last much longer than a POS flowmaster. id say they are constructed nicer than even a magnaflow (my opinion.) that being said they are too loud for my taste. i run a magnaflow on my 4.0

Gibson is not as loud as Dynomax, but you can still hear it. The Gibson cat back system that I installed shortly after I bough my current Ranger new is still on there at 243K miles and still works as good as it did new. The pipes are showing some surface rust but the pipes are not compromised in the least. The muffler still looks great.

Fact #1 - Even the stock muffler isn't a limiting factor for power .

Fact #2- No muffler will make a 4cyl go " rumpa- rumpa " like a V-8 .

If you Dad wanted a Glasspack , might as well use a Glasspack in tribute . Won't be any worse than anything else, and the Dynomax Race Bullet is well made .
