I did a complete front brake overhaul Friday. In addition to the pads being shot, one of the driver side caliper pins was frozen, which lead to the inner pad friction material wearing away completely and scoring the rotor. So I swapped in new rotors, wheel bearings, (reman) calipers, caliper pins, and brake pads. The brakes are great now.
Only issue is that the hub "snout" on the new rotors has a smaller outer diameter than the old ones. So there is a gap between the wheel center hole and the hub snout.
Now after all the BS I have had to go through to get the front wheels off the original rotors after they were rusted/frozen in place, I'm not exactly dying to go back to a hub-centric setup. But I'm curious if relying solely on the lug nuts & studs brings up any potential safety issues. Thoughts?
