Ok fellas, it seems you now have two options again right now! OBX and TMH!

The OBX had disappeared for many many months again on ebay, but now they are listed back on ebay again, and not $645 shipped anymore either, they are now $471 shipped! Although it's still not the $399 they were many years ago, it's still getting a bit better for everyone.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/OBX-Exhaust-Header-For-97-98-99-00-01-Ford-Explorer-Mercury-Mountaineer-5-0L/312088561412?fits=Model:Explorer&epid=563618745&hash=item48a9ed8704:g:OdAAAOSwYJNaq1uR&vxp=mtr

The auction shows 5 sets left available, and that they have already sold 10 sets in the past 19 days!?

------

The Torque Monster website seems to have an active paypal checkout for the GT40P headers again, I don't know if they are in stock or made to order, but they are $950 shipped.

So for the people complaining that the 304 Stainless Steel OBX that fit and work just fine being way too expensive, you can now once again happily pay $950 for Mild Steel headers with a ceramic coating. :)

------

It's great to have options again, but I still recommend if anyone is going to be doing a 98+ Ranger 5.0 swap and is going to want headers for it that you jump on one of these options right now and grab them! As history generally repeats itself and these trucks are getting old so either or both of these options could easily disappear again for months or years at a time like they have in the past or even never be available again.

They're now on Amazon, ordered a set tonight HERE and for some unknown reason there was a $165 discount on them so they were $305 so if anyone has been looking for a set, they have 5 left I think so don't wait!

I've heard of deals that didn't pan out on Amazon, but they're usually sketchy looking ads without information or a low price initially not a discount at checkout... I shall see next week I guess.

The headers got to me, they are definitely legit, the single piece for the drivers side doesn't lay flat or line up with the gasket I bought so it'll take some fenangling but I expected as much...

It'll be a couple weeks until I get to put them in.

I just got here and read the post and MAN did they shoot up in price! They are no longer available on Amazon and they are $516 and another $22 for shipping! My mechanic says he thinks a set of Mustang shorty's will fit with a little finagling but if so, why hasn't everyone else gone that route?

Back when I was doing my 5.0 swap on my '92 4x4 I put a set of shorties on the my GT40P heads just to see how they fit. The angle of the spark plugs requires bending the tubes in several places to get a spark plug boot on without melting it. I didn't try them in the engine bay but I've seen enough photos of frame cutting on the passenger side that I decided to stick with stock Explorer cast iron.

I'm using the straight GT40 heads. No "P"! Now I know that only solves the spark plug issue! My mechanic is going to try fitting them this weekend so I can decide if I need to get a set of these headers.

Does anyone know if these will fit on the GT40 heads?

Unless you have the "P" heads, there is no need for a special header.

Are you 100% sure? I'm thinking about clearance around the steering shaft and all!

You still need TMH or OBX. You can also use factory OEM Explorer exhaust manifolds.

I guess I'm not considering those specific to the "p" heads, but yes, they are specific to the ranger platform, and would certainly make life easier.
