Another annoying wheel/tire size question. Max width on a 2wd?

My credo
I poop in the furnace.
I'm getting a set of snow tires for the rear of my truck and am going to buy a second set of rims. with that in mind I figure why not go a bit wider. Stock size is 225/70/15 on 15x7" rims. Anyone have any recommendations on wheel and tire size? I want to stay close to stock height (28") but go as reasonably wide as possible for more traction. This is only for the rear, I'm not messing with the front yet. And when I do it's 2wd so having slightly different size wont effect anything but again I still wanna stay around 28".

I like the tire finder tool on Tire Rack. It will tell you what width wheel works with the tire you want.

With that said... I think a 15X8 with a 3.75 back space would look good and clear just fine.

I prefer this web page: https://tiresize.com/chart/

Scrolling down to tire size and setting it at 28" diameter, says to could get 355/25R21s, but the $1,200/tire + rim is probably a little steep.

The 4x4 guys run 11.5s (~290mm) on 15x8-10 rims, backspace 3.75-4.25" without too much in way of clearance issues, especially on back.

You have choices as deep as your pockets.
