Im thinking about buying a 93' F150 4x4 as a work truck. I live in alaska and my day to day truck is taking a beating. They are asking 500$, but the trans is leaking. I think it might just be seals but I have never taken out a trans before. I am wondering what you guys think. Is it a good deal? And would it be a difficult job to change seals? I am mechanically inclined to a point. Thanks!

Where is the leak? Front, rear, pan?

The leak appears to be from the front, but there were some drips coming off the rear of the pan. Could have just leaked from the front and went down the pan..

Ok. Yes, it is common for a leak in the bell housing to run out and back and be visible all the way around the pan as well.

If it has an inspection plug or cover I would take it off and see what is happening. Replacing the converter hub seal isn't hard, just time consuming. It is usually important to make sure you have the right seal installer too because you have to be able to get around the input shaft.

Thanks for the help, so will I need a special tool? I will have to drop the trans though right? It is a C6 trans, not sure if it has a inspection plug.
