Yuck. I can see that having a reduced capacity/range ratio to the point it is nearly worthless as a truck.

You guys act like the majority of F-150s sold are used for working near their limits, and I think we all know that's not the case. They're just $45k+, high-riding family haulers now.

Most F-150s are used to haul a single person to/from work during the week, and do some Lowes trips or haul the kids bikes or whatever on weekends. This truck should be ideal for that type of use. If you need it to tow 10k worth of boat/trailer to the lake 150 miles away, then it's probably not the right tool for the job. But that doesn't mean it's not the right tool for a very common job.

There are a bunch of reasons that I wouldn't buy a new F-150, but being electric wouldn't be one of them.

Would you buy an all electric Ranger?
You know the All electric version of any vehicle is going to carry a premium price tag, and cost more than a more capable vehicle.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Traxxas already sells an electric F150. Very affordable.

The electric Ranger made more sense. A modern version would have longer range since it isn't dragging around as much truck.

I don't see the point of what I assume will be a plug in F-150. It isn't going to have anything for range and won't be able to do much for truck stuff. Yeah it would get me to work and back but I could get a plug in car that would do that and more.

I think a ICE/electric would be cool. Not a hybrid but a gas/diesel running a generator that powers electric motor(s) like a submarine or locomotive. All the benefits of electric but nearly instant "recharging" like an internal combustion engine.

Who uses F150s as a truck?

All 1/2 tons nowadays are a joke. Youre better off spending the little extra for a super duty if you plan on doing anything remotly trucky anyways.

But, i guess it makes sense, having a zero emission vehicle being charged by a coal power plant :icon_confused:

If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
When the Honda Insight came out years ago I read an article in a science magazine that said the occupants were exposed to a stronger electro magnetic field than if they'd stood under high tension power lines. The news media didn't pick it up because they only find it fashionable to bash US products. When the hybrid Escape showed up I was expecting the story to appear but it didn't. I was surprised. The range of electric vehicles makes them useless for me, especially when the loss of power in extreme cold is factored in. Conservatively, at least 30% of the reserve is gone when temps drop below zero, then more is used to heat the cabin, more is used to run headlights, rear defroster, wipers, etc. Due to driving habits of some people in recent years my 20 minute commute turned into 45 minutes or more in a snow storm with 2-3 miles crawling up and down hills or stopped. When you start subtracting from the total range due to these factors an electric vehicle might not get me home before it went dead. Then I would have to plug it into the power grid which gets 80% of its power from burning coal. Until we have affordable fuel cell technology electric vehicles won't save the planet.

1) I wouldn't buy any all electric vehicle that doesn't say "Power Wheels" or "Peg Perego" on the side. Our infrastructure as a whole will not support them en masse. Too boot, as Rusty alluded to, when charged off a coal-fired plant (a large percentage of US electricity is generated this way, around 98% here in PA) an all-electric vehicle has worse per-mile emissions than a comparable gasser.

2)I use my Ranger for truck stuff. I use my Ranger for more and heavier truck stuff than most F-150 owners do. If I run up against something it genuinely won't handle, my Expedition and trailer usually will. Anything that won't, I'll pay the delivery fee because it is probably a tri-axle load of wood or a dumper of gravel.

3) I think you should have to prove you don't have a micro-penis before being able to buy a 1/2 ton or larger pickup. It would cut down on purchases by the compensators.
