When you down shift by pulling the shift lever down from D to 2, what gear are you actually in 3 or 2nd ? I'm assuming if you start off with the shift indicator in 2 you start off in second and it's locked in second but what happens to 3rd ? Can you not lock in 3rd ?

Very confusing :icon_confused:

Well, yes and no. Manual 1st and manual second are achieved somewhat differently than the 1st and 2nd gears available in drive. Manual 2nd is somewhere between 2nd and 3rd gear.

You can't lock it in 3rd gear, per se, but manual 2nd should get you close. It's not much of a driving gear, but neither is 3rd. On the 5R55s you spend most of your time in 4th and 5th.

Thanks adsm08, It is weird but I understand, when going down a steep grade there is definitely a difference from D to 2 but when it regularly shifts 1,2,3 to fourth second does seem a lower.
