I was having a conversation lately with my daughter about this.

Correct me if I'm wrong, or feel free to add your input, but I feel like the majority of the off-road 4x4 Ranger enthusiasts are in the midwest-northeast, as well as the northwest as depicted on this map in blue. The prerunner guys are depicted in green. Mostly in California and parts of Nevada and Arizona.

Now I'm not saying there isn't any of these enthusiasts in other areas, just that the vast majority of them seem to be in the areas shaded.

Anyone else ever noticed this, or had these same thoughts?

BTW, the dumbass looking Waldo in Texas is me.... struggling with the fact that I like the warm temps here in Texas, but all my friends are up in the cold shaded section to the right.

Well, I'm in the Pacific Northwest. I like the warm weather too, but I never got to travel so I'm stuck in Washington. Maybe I'll move out someday. But I think your on the right track.

Does Northern Ontario Canada count? I don’t like the ridiculously cold temperatures but here I am.

I’m in Pa and I would agree with the map as a general rule.

I tell ya what Jim, I know of a handful of places here in PA that are for sale, or could be for the right price, within driving of good wheeling, garage, and wood heat.

I keep the inside of my house as warm as Texas through the winter and pay about the same, or less, as a lot of people I know with gas or electric do to keep the house at 60.

Its been years since I've been off-roading but I live in central Ohio so that is where we would go mudding or trail riding. Only knew a few buddy's that had actual land where we could do that. My one friend has a nice mud run in his back yard and a pond that they dig out every year with the excavator. Take all that pond junk that they dig out and make mounds everywhere which in turn become great obstacles to climb over. Great spot for fishing, mudding, trail riding, quad riding, fireworks. You name it and we probably did it back there. Oh, its a junk yard too so we would take the hoods off old trucks and tow them behind the quads in the snow. Good times.

My credo
Doing things wrong, until I get it right.
I live in Florida, where everything is almost flat and at sea level, in this part of the country there aren't many rock climbing spots, but they have what they call " Bogg Ins " where a bunch of guys and gals get to play in the mud. Probably all the things y'all do in the snow, we do in the mud. Fun times and getting dirty. The Most popular one is every year in Perry FL. I'll post the event next time it comes around, just for fun.

My credo
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is!
Just south of the Twin Cities in Minnesota here, got a few off road parks up here to play in. The closest to me being Trollhaugen over in Dresser, WI. Once I finish up the Bronco, I'm going to head over there and check it out, its supposed to be pretty good. I get the feeling that the jeep crowd is pretty thick up here...

Western South Dakota, in Rapid City. We have some pretty decent wheeling in the Black Hills but it's more or less an island... a lot of WY is off limits and virtually everything within a couple hundred miles in every other direction is just flat prairie.

There used to be a good 20 or so of us in Utah, but I am afraid it's just me now.

Not much around me for offroading aside from level B/C dirt/mud roads.

It irritates everyone and too many people know who my trucks belong to do that recreationally. :black_eye:

I go on 7 to 10 day off-road trips a couple times each year with groups ranging from 3 to 7 vehicles. Various people on these trips are from all over the country. I am from California and three others are also from CA. I have travelled with four from Texas, four from New Mexico, one from Colorado, one from Idaho, one from Washington, one from Oregon, one from Ohio, one from Georgia, one from New York and one from PA.
Most of our trips are in the West (Colorado to Pacific Coast and Mexico border to the Canada border). I don't know if that sways the statistic but the location of the people I travel with don't agree with your map.

I think the intent is of active TRS members that go offroading.

I tend to agree, there are a lot of people on here are from out east around Ohio/Penn area. And then out on the west coast.

OK, I missed that. If I list only 4X4 Rangers that go on these off-road trips, it would be me and one other in CA, one in Georgia and one in New York. If I list only the ones that are still active in TRS, I can only list me. Two have gone to Toyotas and one to a F-150. That is primarily due to Rangers no longer being available after 2011.
