I've had my truck since new. How can you tell when you've had it too long?

1. Painted twice.
2. Rebuilt a/c twice.
3. Third set of tires and they are almost worn out.
4. Second set of brakes almost gone.
5. Second set of shocks worn out.

I've never kept any vehicle for 18 years. I guess this one's a keeper.:icon_rofl: Actually 18 years 4 months and 5 days.:icon_thumby:

I had to replace the slave cylinder 2.5 years ago and went ahead and replaced the clutch too. The old clutch had 1/16" wear compared to the new clutch. I kept the old one just in case.:D I still have the original FR480 spare tire. It holds air and is not weather cracked by I have my doubts as to it's safety.

Yesterday I had to replace the third battery. It was only 7.5 years old.

Every time I have to replace a part again I get sticker shock. When did batteries get so expensive? I do remember $7 shocks. I do remember $2 wiper blades too. Here in the desert new wipers are a must about every six months. Those are up 400%.

Yup, I've had the truck too long....:icon_cheers:

When you don't need a repair manual to tell you whats wrong or how to fix it.

When your truck has been identified by both the Feds and the CIA and is no longer a viable tool for smuggling contraband.

When you've had every part of the drive-train out at least once.

When you got the wiring diagrams seared into your memory, and can start the truck and drive off with just a Phillips screw driver and a pair of pliers.(1st gens)

Or when your Ignition tumbler is so worn, you don't need keys to start the engine.

(future) When its the only Ranger on the road, driving next to a hover car.

Or when you have spent more in parts than what the vehicle was worth.

It's only been about three years since I bought my "Flying Eggplant," and people recognize me pretty quickly. Then again, it IS about the ONLY Ranger within 150 miles with a teal green cap on a purple truck!

Here's a few:

-- You've worn out three or more driver's seats.

-- The steering wheel and shifter are molded to your hands only.

-- The guys at the parts store see you at the door and by the time you hit the counter, they already have the parts list or book for your truck open.

-- Cops in three states don't even ask for your registration any more.

-- You've had your truck longer than your girlfriend or wife. Any they don't mind that you spend as much time with it as them

When people say "BS" when you tell them you still have the original ball joints (24 years later) but you know you do because YOU didn't replace them.

you can tell if your engine is running rich or lean by the slight change in exhaust note.

When during a blinding rainstorm you can write on the inside of a soggy matchbook cover
a complete list of all the parts that are original to the truck... and do your writing with a dull crayon...
