Your budget is $10k for an Apocalypse Vehicle

So here's the rules- you have 10 grand to spend and the apocalypse is upon us.

What would you build? Why would you build it that way?
I want to hear about the different functionalities and gadgets, whether you'd go full on gas guzzler or economy engine. Lexan windows or expanded steel?

Build your rig in words!

Me- I'm going with a 2nd gen Trans Am or Camaro. Cut the floor out and firewall out. Tube steel frame rails bent to fit against the unibody front to back. Mount a big block and auto and 205 transfer case, then fit a new floor pan and firewall around it.
Next, a dana 44 front and dana 60 rear with leafs on all 4 corners. Money goes on Adams custom driveshafts.
The trunklid is gone now and I have propane tanks as reserve fuel tanks. Coil over shocks stiffen the suspension and more money goes to 35 inch mud tires and a 4 core radiator.
Next is lexan windows, ballistic foam in the welded on doors.
On board welder, generator, solar, air compressor and fuel pump with siphon hose.

Oh this will be fun...

Base vehicle- 77-83 F150/250 4x4, 300 I6 (reliabilty, durabilty, and easy to cobble togther, i stopped at 83 to avoid feedback carbs, started at 77 to get the better power steering), 4 speed (creeper) manual, atleast a 3.55 gear and an 8ft box...regular cab.

Small lift....maybe just level the front. BFG A/T tires in 31-33 10.50.

Big honkin homemade full length bullbar on the front (dont wanna sustain damage running through crowds of zombies or theives)

PVC snorkel

Gun rack in back window.

Topper for sleeping in the bed

KC daylighters on the bullbar.

Probably would come in under budget and use the rest to buy as many shotgun, .38spl, and hot .357 i could.

Good, solid, reliable, capable of driving over building rubble, trees, etc...and sure @BroncLander could run me down...untill i hit the woods

I originally wanted to say a pre-def diesel truck, but I'd rather have something small. Maybe a 4wd, 4 door, twin I beam era explorer (or equivalent) would be good. I'd really want it to have a mechanical diesel since diesel lasts longer and is easier to refine (possibly more readily available in this situation), but that's asking allot with this budget. Slap on some heavy duty bumbers, rig up escape-friendly security bars over the windows, a few extra spare tires, extra fuel capacity, maybe kevlar in the door panels, a few led light pods and extras, snorkle.

Or just get a Hilux and call it even

See, I think that goes perfect with the spirit of the assignment. When the SHTF and the world falls into chaos, you use what you have to survive. I have a Cummins 4bt, a couple ZF5 transmissions, a set of Superduty axles, and a ‘79 F350 SCLB… I just need a cap and to assemble the whole mess. I can do this for way less than $10K.

In this case EV (with solar panel roof) or alternative energy is the way to go. I think for longevity of fuel supply I would go steam or the wood smoke fuel.
Or.... a bicycle. Easy to hide,silent, no fuel.
