After sitting in my garage for a few years the wife said my Yakima roof rack was taking up space. I had this rack on my 86 Subaru 3 dr hatch back (looked really nice) and I had it on my 97 Nissan Hadrbody truck. I just had to change out the clips and the rack fit all of the vehicles I used the rack on my Ranger for about three years and then took it off. The cross bars are 48" and I thought about getting 58 " crossbars but I do not like the bars sticking out so far. I guess if I really need the 58" bars I can always get them on Ebay used in good shape. I also have a set of crossbar pads that I use now and then. The Yakima is a really great roof rack. Excuse the cell phone photos. I will one day get better photos when I get the time.
What I would like to know about is getting a Basket for the rack. I want a small one since the Rangers are mid sized. I have seen some Nissans with the baskets but they look huge. Any ideas....

Little humor here.....

Three weeks ago we were getting ready for a huge cold front to come on down to the Tampabay area. I went out and washed the truck and then I waxed it really good and then I thought I would try out the new cell phone with the 3.0 mp camera and see how the photos come out. I had just got back into the garage when all of a sudden...a huge rain storm came into the area!!! Soaking wet fresh cleaned and waxed truck!!! lol

Put a canoe on top of it!

You can always have a welder modify a larger one.

Regular baskets can be used. I bought mine from Coleman but they no longer sell it.

I don't use the Yakima wind deflector though since it looked goofy with the one on the basket.

Oh, man!! That looks so cool!!! Coleman? I did not know they made those at one time. You have the deflector already and you are right...you don't need to add the one like mine. That is the perfect size for our trucks!!! Now I will look into finding one now that I see yours. I am doing the swap meet thing later on (March-July). I am sure I can find something like that.

Man that does look super nice. I was going to buy a 2003-2004 Nissan truck roof rack. I found one close buy the guy removed to add a huge safari roof rack that looked real cool. I looked at his stock roof rack and the only thing I could see was that I would have to cut a small section out of it and weld it back together. I know I could make it work and it would sit lower then my Yakima roof rack. I really did not want to drill any holes in the roof and then I would have to use nutserts (spelling?) and a sealer to install the mounting screws. I would not want to do this myself but I would have to take it to a pro and have to pay him to have it done just for safety concerns and then I would have to worry about a roof leak if I did it myself.......

What clips are you guys using? Ive wanted to get one for awhile but thought that my truck wouldnt look right with one but now that its getting some bigger shoes in a couple weeks it might be able to pull it off. How high off the roof are the crossbars?

I love the look of racks on trucks. I just wish they had some that would sit lower. My brother had a Yakima BasketCase on his 4runner. Its a real low profile and a smaller size so it would probably look great on a Ranger.

That is a nice small size for our Rangers!! Me likes!!!! I could most likley drive into the garage with that attached to the roof rack. Some roof racks are very tall to handle larger stuff. I could not get into the garage with the larger one attached!!! I measured the height of the SKS towers and from the roof to the top of the cross bars they measured right at 7 inches in height.

Yes, you could mount lights or a video camera on them. I saw a video camera mount for about $25.00 somewhere last week (Ebay?) that really lloks neat and is very well made.
