I have done some exhaust work on my truck and have been thinking about replacing all the pipe fromt he cat back. Atm I currently am using the stock piping then makes a turn out the side behind the cab with the stock 2 inch pipe. Im thinking about getting new pipe and then run the new pipe from the cats strait back then make the turn out the side like it is atm how ever I want to go to a bigger pipe. I am just wondering if I should go with 2.5 inch or if it would be alright to go with 3 inch or will 3 inch be to big?

Also If any one in here knows where to buy stock piping in Alaska please let me know. Im going to try to call Weld Air in wasilla and maby Napa and shcucks in Wasilla also.

Atm my current exhaust system is leaking and I can not weld the leak because I cant reach it. With the set up im thinking of doing I would pre weld the piece before it goes in the truck then cut the old pip off about 2 inches after the cats and use an exhaust clamp at that point then cut off the old mounting points behind where the muffler us to be then Weld those onto the new pipe to hold it in place, that way I can make sure there are no air leaks. Im new to welding so its not the greatest but so far the welds I have done have been holding up lol just cant reach that one spot thats leaking and it bugs me.

Atm I like the sound of the strait pipes after the cats I just want to try to get rid of the exhaust leaks without paying a muffler shop to do it all, and figured while I was at it might as well go and put in bigger pipe and Tip.

let me know what you guys think.

PS The truck is a 94 4.0L 5 speed Ranger.

2.5" will give you a good increase in flow without hurting any lower end torque. I know of guys running 3" but they are either spraying nitrous or forced induction application. Stick with the 2.5" for an N/A 4.0L, but for your own peace of mind and sanity put a muffler on it. Straight piped V6's do not sound good, and the drone at hwy speeds (or around 2500rpm from my experience) is enough to drive one into willingly takin up residence in the local mental clinic!

Ok I will keep it at 2.5 then, I was afraid 3 inch would be to big but figured I would ask just to be sure. I Know some people dont like strait pipes but I like the way mine sounds atm (except that dang air leak, cant stand that hissing noise) and think with a bigger pipe it would sound a lil deeper.

This is alot like what mine sounds like atm except mine is not quite as deep.

This is similer to the set up im wanting to do except I dont want the duel tips just a single 3 inch tip.

Well, I know its been quite a while since I posted on here but I re-did my Exhaust and im not sure atm. I like it, but I dont lol. Its loud but not to loud (for me any way) and doesnt drone badly inside the cab ( then again drone hasnt bothered me like some people) only thing is I wish it had a bit more growel to it. Any way this is it.

It sounds alot better when its under a load like when driving, I plan on trying to get a clip from inside the cab tomarrow, possibly a drive by but not sure if I will have the time to find a back road that I can really step on it without making people mad haha.

Careful with welding pipe... it's tricky because you can melt through the other side, creating slag... slag isn't fused to the weld, and will come off eventually. Make sure you use the correct wire/flux/electrodes. Too hot will create slag and too cold won't fuse the metal lol... I've got about 4 years experience in MIG/ARC/TIG and O/A cutting and welding... sooooo :p I know some tricks, got questions about welding, ask me
