There is a guy close to me that is selling a 2003 reg cab edge 4x4 5spd 3.0 that was rolled for $450 OBO. He says the cab, hood, fenders and doors are all bad, but the bed and everything else is good. He says it has about 160,000 miles on it and was mechanically sound before the wreck, and he says it was a low speed roll. Is this something worth buying and fixing? (JY cab, fenders, etc.) Or, is it something worth buying and parting out?

For parts for my trucks, I was thinking if it has an 8.8 with 4.10 gears I could use the rear end, but other than that, I wouldn't have much use for anything else since it is a newer ranger.

I couldn't go look at it today, but I'm going to try and check it out tomorrow.

Take some pics to see if its worth buying.
check for how much parts go around your place and check what can be still good on it so u can have an idea if u could get a small profit from it by parting.

Here's what I'd do. I would buy the truck. Then shop around for a good cab. If you can find a cab for a good price, fix the truck up and either drive it or sell it. Or if you cannot find a cab (I highly doubt that you won't be able to) part it out, use the parts you need and sell what you don't need.

If your trying to title a new cab, your going to jump thru some hoops to match the vin to your old 1 and it's going to end up as a "rebuilt title". Even at $450, a vehicle that has been rebuilt is worth roughly 1/2-3/4 of what they would normally go for.. It'll cost at least a few grand or better to get it right, + the wiring nightmare, and in the end, it's gonna book for $5-6k on a good day..

That said, it's probably worth $450 in parts, and you could recover most of that in scrap

I'm going to look it over real good before I decide. I didn't even think of messing with a title; that may be a pain in the **s... :icon_confused:

I'll try to get some pics and post them...

no 93-97 single cabs are 3" shorter in length than 98-present single cabs... that being said i'd buy it for $450...

If you get a cab and swap it make sure it 2006 and older the 2007 and up are different the hood mounts are 2 inches to the right on pass side and the computer box is way wider .changing the cab is easy its trying to get a active vin thats hard,if you get a cab with a salvage vin then its just a matter of a rebuild inspection ,but 450 is not bad.I picked up a 2008 4x4 with 45k on it for $650.00 and just finished the cab swap so a fender and some mirrors and a new right side box skin and I'm ready for the rebuild inspection...

Thanks for the input guys! I wasn't able to go look at it today, maybe not even tomorrow, but my brother said he would take some pics of it for me with his phone. So hopefully by tomorrow afternoon I will get some pics from him... :)

Well, my brother looked at it for me and said it was worse than the guy told us. He took some pics with his phone and sent them to me. I have to agree, it looks like the truck was going a little faster than he said it was. My brother said the bed is dented up, and from the looks of the pic he sent, it looks like the frame is probably bent; the bed and cab are not lined up anymore. So, I'm going to pass on it, if anyone else is interested in it for parts, I will give you the location and the owners phone number...

Here are the pics my brother sent me:

In this one it looks like the bed and cab are out of alignment.

Pretty much what miller time wrote makes absolute sense...The 4X4 drivetrain can be sold for $$ & scrap the rest (sheet metal & frame) for serious coin-

Well, we found out that the guy that owns it owes the body shop over $2000 in storage fees. I guess it's been there for a good while. Something tells me the body shop is not going to let someone come get the truck until they pay up...
