Hi guys,

I got a little problem on my 1995 2.3L, let me explain.

When I turn the keys on position ON (before starting the engine) my wipers works normally.
When I start the engine, my wipers doesn't work anymore, even the washer.

Inside Fuse checked, Relays seems the be ok.

Does anyone had the same problem, or have any idea about where it can come from?

Thanks

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Is there anything else that doesn't work? It sounds like worn out ignition switch if other things are affected the same way.

Yes, +1 ^^^, could be ignition switch under steering column, but it's in the same RUN position key ON, engine off or engine running
But you do turn it to START and then back to RUN so maybe its not coming back far enough, try turning key towards OFF a bit

Also see if wipers work in ACC, they should

Exactly what I had in mind.

Eveything else seem to work properly. I can't test the horn because I removed it to fix it.

What you meen by ACC? Accessories position?
If that's it, yes they work in this position ^^

I also tried to start the engine and turn back the keys a lil bit, but nothing happened..

Well, I'll buy some relay, cause two of theme got some plastic shield broken, and a ignition switch to see if it come from there!

Wonder if you've got a bad ground?
Wipers work when the engine isn't running. When it is, there isn't enough of a ground to support the wiper motor? Makes me wonder if trying to run the wiper causes the idle to fluctuate.

Hi guys,
Sorry for the late reply..

I come back with some news!

Since my last post, I had few other problems. My horn doesn't work anymore, I need to check the wires, and the contact in the steering wheel to be sure, and my dome light started to work non-normally, like sometimes it worked fine, sometimes it doesn't light on when doors are open. And one time it stayed on even with doors closed and engine running. And since it doesn't work at all.

About the wipers, I saw that when my dome light worked, the wipers worked too, as my dome light doesn't work anymore, the wipers doesn't work too.
I checked all the fuses and relay several times. I saw sometime the problems (especially the dome light problems) can be from the GEM, could it come from it?

I ordered a new ignition switch to be sure, nothing changed.

Hello,
I still have issues with my wipers, after lot of research and test (fuses, relay, power at each connector etc...) it seem like the GEM is the problem, my horn and dome light still work when they want...
The biggest problem today is that the winter show his ass over here, so I kinda need my wipers a lot ahah!
There is a possibility to bypass the GEM and make a complet wiring for the wipers in direct on a added switch? (Like a light bar)
I actually can't look for a GEM (Probably bad, or come from US at a price....)

Thanks

Here is the wiring diagram for 1995 wipers

Looks like using a switch to ground the Yellow/white wire for the run/park relay would get low wiper speed working

You could do that at the GEM
Cut wire so you can splice it back together when you replace GEM down the road

So if I understand, just need to place a simple switch on the yellow wire to possibly use the wiper with the multifunction switch?

No, multi-function switch can't be used without GEM, as far as wiper controls

You need to add a switch that grounds the yellow/white wire that goes to the engine bay's run/park relay
That grounding activates/closes the run/park relay which then powers the low wiper motor wire thru the low/high relay

It would just be an off/on switch for low speed wipers, wipers would shut off with the key off

I feel like a dumb when it's about electrical stuff
Which schema is the good one?

I have bunch of this kind of switch: (that's why I made a 3 pole switch on my schema)

The second one, you are taking GEM out of the loop

And you just need a 2 connector switch, on/off

Switch connects to yellow/white wire that goes out to the engine bay
Switch is grounded to cab ground, any cab metal screw

Once you have access to the yellow/white wire and have cut it, I would use a temporary jumper wire to Ground it, then turn on the key
Make sure wipers come on, that would confirm GEM issue
If they don't come on then its a wiring issue at the wiper relay or elsewhere
