You can download the Release Candidate for Windows 7 and install it.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx

I downloaded it a couple days ago from Microsoft Technet. It is now open to the public.

I am going to install a dual boot with my XP and see if there was any changes from the Beta version to the Release Candidate. The Beta version didn't impress me all that much over Vista.

If you don't load it, post here what you think about it compared to other Microsoft operating systems.

I agree the beta version looked just like vista to me. Ive been using vista since beta, so there wasn't much new. I know 7 is tweaked to run more efficiently, or so they say. I haven't had any complaints with vista however.

I think the release candidate is a ton better than the beta version. If they improve the few tweeks that needs to be made to 7 for the final version, then I will like it MUCH better than XP.

Yea, 7 is faster than Vista & XP. 7 uses about the same amount of RAM that XP used with all the features running. I think the most usage that I have saw even after playing COD5 for a few hours is around 750MB.

I've used both the Beta and the RC and been impressed with each, as have the other people I know that have been playing with them. It's definitely a step in the right direction for Microsoft.

The other good thing with 7 is it will swap onto older machines easier than Vista did. Majority of the XP drivers also work on 7.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, Build 7100. It's better than Beta. I'll buy it when it comes out. IMHO, it's much better than Vista.

7 will be much more business friendly as to setting up networks and using VPNs.

You wont want to go back to Vista after using it. I hate going back to XP Pro to do all of my personal finances on right now.

My laptop doesn't even meet the minimum system requirements for the 64 bit version. I only have 1gig ram........

Why do you want the 64 bit version?

because if I am going to go from one worthless windows OS to another worthless windows OS then I want to upgrade to 64 bit. I have a 64 bit proc and i want to see what all the hype over 64 bit is all about.

There is no advantage in a 64 bit OS for a personal PC. If you are using it in an environment that is attached to a server and have programs that require 64 OS, then it would be worth it. If not, then you are wasting money.

Most personal applications will not interface with a 64 bit OS.
