When mounting a winch to the back end of your truck is it ok to hook your anchor point (rock, tree, etc) to the front frame? I have done some reading and I have read both so I want to hear what y'all think. If not do you just run the strap from the anchor point under your truck and back to the winch plate? I plan on pulling some logs not recovering myself just to clarify.
EDIT: Basically if I anchor the front of the frame and winch from the back of the frame is there a chance of strecting the frame?

If you can't just winch off your truck with the weight of the truck acting as an anchor point, you may be pushing it. I'd like to see if it will actually bend your frame, try it out!

I don't think so, you would stall the winch or break the cable before you ever came close to stretching the frame.

I have done this, winching rigs out with my rig chained to trees and even stalled the 10,500lbs winch out while snatch blocked back to the bumper.

Biggest thing is do you have adequate strength in the winch attachment to the vehicle and is your winch cable in good shape? I would be more worried about these points and making sure they can withstand what you have planned.

Seen it done many times, no issues there, remember that 80% of the anchor is still going to be on the wheels, leaving what ever extra your wheels couldn't handle to hit the tree, and frame, it's not going to be any worse than snapping someone with a recovery strap...

Hey thanks guys. I guess the weight of the truck and the e-brake should take most of the stress with the little bit left over going to the frame and anchor. Also it's a 1 ton frame so it's a little beefier than the ranger's anyway.

This trucks e-brake is on the transmisson. Also aren't most winch remotes only like 12' cause this truck has an 11' flatbed so the remote may not reach.

should be a 4 pin trailer connector, you should be able to pick up an extension at harbour freight... not sure about the length of the cables though... personally, i wouldn't want to stand next to your winch, in case something snaps...

NEVER PUT YOUR TRUCK IN PARK!
NEUTRAL AND STAND ON THE BRAKES!

Unless you want to brake the parking pin thing in your trans.
