I have a 1993 ranger. 4.0 4x4 5 speed Ext cab. It needs a transmission. And I found a 1992 ext cab 2.3 4x4 ranger. with the trans I need. But it also has alot of aftermarket stuff for a decent price. My question is what parts do you guys think will fit my truck? I will copy and past his description below. I will be going to look at the truck tomorrow and may just buy it for the deal. But would still like to know what parts are interchangeable, As far as the stuff he listed goes. Iv also seen a few people post that the body mounts on all pre 2011 models are the same and that you could put different year bodys on other frames? I have no idea if this holds any truth. Would be curious about it too though.Thank you for you're time. Also new to the station. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong thread. Any direction would also be appreciated.Screenshot_20210509-230735_Facebook.jpg

--1992 ford ranger for sale it's a mud truck project. 2.3 5spd Truck comes with a full 6 inch super lift, with a dune runner steering set up, and front and rear differentials front is a Dana 35 ttb, rear is an 8.8 with a locker, both are set up with 5.13 gears. I have a set of wore out Baja claws 38.5x 16 r15 with wheels good enough for a trail rig not highway! Also comes with a spare 4speed trans and transfercase out of an 83 ranger but it's a got slip yokes on the drive shafts but you can make it work! Truck runs but you gotta slap the other transfercase and drive shaft it to drive it (I was looking for a manual transfercase) also have a 92 extended cab ranger to go with it's 4x4 2.9v6 5spd but it's in rough shape really only good for parts.--

The lift will fit.
The trans from the spare truck will fit, the one behind the 2.3 wont. You need a trans that is behind a 2.9 or 4.0 and preferably post 1990 so you get the m5od 5-speed manual.

Is it possible he put a R1 trans in the 2.3. I had him check and he said it was the m5od r1 but he may have been talking about the spare truck

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

It has to come from the right engine so that the bellhousing bolt pattern is correct. That's what @alwaysFlOoReD was talking about. The 2.9 and 4.0 engines shared the same bolt pattern. The 2.3 is different and the 3.0 is also different.

They both will have M5OD-R1 transmissions but there are several variants of it and most are not really compatible with each other. 2.3, 3.0 and 2.9/4.0 trucks all have different bellhousing shapes and bolt patterns, and the bellhousing is integrated into the trans case so it's not something you can just swap.

You COULD put the internals from his truck into your case but it's almost easier at that point to just find a good 4.0 trans or rebuild the one you have.
