Who watches (watched) Top gear and Grand Tour? Anyone see the Grand Tour finale yet?

Sincerity goes a long way. These three were very much fun. In portrait- PLEASE no.

Troubleshooting connection problems on "prime" only, I saw the very last episode which I never knew existed. Seems that over the years I've turned my wife into a "petrol head" as our Saturday night turned into a lovefest for the return to the African desert where apparently it all had started some 20+ years before. So much for our dinner. We both just sat there watching like we normally do the increaditable video that this team is famous for. Totally re-arranged our evening unexpectedly viewing their last get together.

There is also something about this show, Top Gear, Grand Tour, and the Clarkston Farm where the same exact filming team is included and the group of 3 (for the most part in the first 2) that poses as interesting view and form of presentation. Aside from the comedy which is always present as sweet as British comedy can be, even though they will never ever admit anything the like, You see, I've completely given up on mass media, about 6 years ago. Been lied to so many times and refuse to be a part of what is currently going on. But I regress. This show, shows compels me to launch into some sort of journey, the type of being transported, and, for me was in my sweet little Ranger up to Colorado to the Imogene Pass Silverton region. Sorry, not for the pot, but simply for the experience (weather, lack of bugs & nature).

I've been waiting to write what I have really felt about this show(s), but actually have drifted away it seems, but after watching the last one, my carburetor bowls are again full of gas, and rejuvenated. Thanks pentode for a superb thread. I'm done.

Hehe, we live in a TikTok world now unfortunately. Still, I’m just glad the guy filmed it and put it out there. Gave me some closure.

There are a lot of things this crew did very well; at the top of the list are a couple that make the show(s) so watchable. Their filmography has always been world class - that makes it compelling viewing even for people who have no interest in cars. Also, their chemistry/camaraderie and their banter has the same effect. Heck, my 80 year old mom would sit and watch with my Dad even though neither of them has any interest in cars.
Both the BBC and other countries have tried multiple times to recreate the magic of those 3 guys on screen together and none of them have come close. You wouldn’t expect lightning to strike twice… but then how the world did Clarkson end up with Kaleb? Working his land already? IMHO that’s the genius of Clarkson - he knows interesting people when he sees them and knows exactly how to egg them on.

I am not really up on European style farming, everything is alien to me that way and I can't quite tell how "real" it really is. Decent size fields and here is like 200bu of rape seed in the middle of the floor. Is that a lot? It doesn't seem like a lot. Why just dump it on the ground so we can fuss about it getting rained on? But everyone has their little dumper wagons so maybe that is just how they roll over there. Rinse and repeat...

Where I used to work we had a guy that inherited his father's farm and had a full pension, he really reminded me of Clarkson.

No idea what he was doing but he had fun blowing money trying to do it... also entertaining to watch.

I don't know much about farming - what I do know I learned from friends who grew up on farms. I don't know how much of Clarkson's other stuff you've seen, but one of his oldest catchphrases was "how hard could it be?" Also, he was famous for having almost no mechanical aptitude whatsoever.
I know he bought that beautiful (small by our standards) farm a long time ago when he hit the big time, and I'd bet good money he never had any intention of even thinking of farming it. I'm not sure whose idea it was to make that show but I'm pretty sure the discussion went like "let's just point a camera at this guy trying to be a farmer - it'll be a laugh." And they were right. But what I bet nobody realized at the time was that he might actually start to enjoy it, and care about it, and be respectful about it, and that the show would become a touchstone for all the problems facing modern farming. That's the part I find fascinating about the show.

I believe in the first series he mentioned how North American farmers must find it hilarious watching him struggle to farm his (comparatively) little fields.

I enjoy the show don't get me wrong but even if he had a good year and say he quadrouples his crop... it doesn't seem like a whole lot. But maybe it sells for a lot though.

Oh no, I'm pretty sure he was expecting to lose money when he went into it (other than whatever Amazon is paying him). Even coming close to breaking even must feel like a win. But he does use that to make the point that farmers are struggling and suffering, which is the message I think it's important for all us non farmers to hear.

My credo
"220, 221, whatever it takes."
Anyone who has no idea what we're on about, just ask and we'll curate a list of episodes to get you onboard, but rest assured Top Gear/Grand Tour are about cars, almost totally not about crying at all. 😉
The first episode I ever watched was the figure 8 demo derby with camping trailers. I was like, "WTH is this? It's great!" After that I never missed an episode.
Grand Tour was great too, of course I watched the last episode. And I watch their other stuff on Prime and YouTube.

Talking about having your hands full talking regarding the BBC....
What does James May mean when he spouts "Ballards"?
