I’m thinking about running them at least in the front of my red 92, but still trying to figure this all out in my spare time. Of course that also got me considering it for my green 2000. I’m fine with building my own mounts and/or buying things, just need to figure it out because I have never worked with them beyond helping a buddy swap a set on his one car years ago and it was a bolt-on swap. I don’t see any bolt on sets for a 92 Ranger :icon_twisted:

That’s where I’m at also. I wanna put them on the front of my 89. I have been looking at F.O.A. They’re half the cost of everyone else but they’re known to be leaky and need to be rebuilt, new from the factory to make them reliable.

I need to cycle my suspension, after I get extended RA’s, to figure out how much travel I’m getting. Then I need to built new steering. I like the thought of a swing set, but I’m leaning towards a K-link because of the simplicity.

save your money and stay away from FOA. theyve earned themselves the nick name "Fucked On Arrival". machining sucks, materials used sucks. no quality control on anything. parts get assembled with burrs and machine marks which then wear surfaces inside and destroy seals with in a few miles. ive seen it all from those guys over there. most shock guys wont even work on them lol.
i have a close friend who works on shocks for a living thats why ive seen all this stuff.

I made some changes to the truck. V8 swap, King Cab swap, bobbed the bed. 90% done 7yrs ago, started working out of town for 95% of the yr for 3 yrs, lost motivation. It starting to come back as I want to drive the truck again.

JTR- I’ve read that. I wonder how much work it would be to disassemble, hone and polish everything? Think it would be worth it?
My other thought is to buy used and rebuild a set of Fox or Kings. But still, they’re expensive lol.

in my experience its not worth it because you're left with sub standard shock shafts and bodies. crappy resi hoses that leak and are expensive to replace, and terrible customer service for the plethora of replacement parts youll need.
used fox or king shocks are 100% the way to go. ive only ever bought used kings. they can be had for good deals.

So I searched Fox and this is what I’ve came up with. The 16” travel is just a guestimate. I assume 12” would be more suitable. But I will have to install extended RA’s clearance the beams, the axle yolks and check articulation.

I can’t find any used coil overs lol. I searched every forum that I’m in and ebay. I did find some 10” foxes without springs for $500

From what I’m finding, Coilovers are pretty easy to set up and tune. I can see how the valving would be a little intimidating, but if you keep records, it would be easier.
