I would like to have a master cylinder that requires less force on the pedal to achieve the same pressure or better on the calipers. i know different ones can be used with a larger bore for more pressure, but which ones can be used that are direct bolt in

Umm, less pedal force for the same pressure means more "throw" in proportion. Not a good idea.

If you aren't getting power assist, check for a blown power brake booster. If you don't have power brakes, install them.

The range of master cylinder bore diameters for Rangers is kinda narrow...

The '86-88 Rangers ised a 15/16" bore diameter.
the '90-94 used a 1" bore
Later (I'm not exactly sure when) ford switched to a 1-1/16" bore.

the difference in pedal travel is kinda small.

a smaller bore gives more mechanical advantage over the calipers
but, as MAKG said, at the expense of more pedal travel

Though I doubt the 1/16" difference between one and the next smaller
size is enough to worry about, provided everything else is in good condition
and your self-adjusters (in the back) are working correctly.

How about being VERY SPECIFIC about the ranger you are working on
so I can make specific recommendations rather than talk general theory...
