My 1995 Ranger 4.0 has been having issues going from 2nd to 3rd (around 45MPH on a level acceleration curb). Sometimes it'll do it and be fine until I stop and then crap out on me (and go into limp home mode with the O/D Light flashing and limited gear ratios after bucking against the rev limiter for a minute) and after this I did some research and found an article stating the following:

"Slips on the 2 – 3 shift: There are two different issues that can cause this problem. Either the bore in which the intermediate servo pin rides in is worn out, or the spring on the intermediate servo piston is too strong."

Seeing as how I have no clue which one is the issue, and either way I have to drop the pan on the bottom from what I understand (but thankfully not the whole trans), I figure I may as well apply a bore repair kit, and replace the servo (which I'm assuming sits above the bore and will need to be pulled anyhow). Just one problem: I can't find where to buy the solenoid or the bore kit, the only links I keep finding are for the 5R55 series trans in newer models. I also can't find a good guide on how to do this.

Can any of you point me in the right direction as to parts and instructions? I can't really afford to have a shop do this, and I can't afford to keep getting 10 miles to the gallon due to the limited ratios when I should be getting almost double that.

Thanks,

- Will

My credo
If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical problem
These bore kits run 300-400 and the transmission has to come out and apart.E2A2FB6A-EC80-493A-98AE-508834066B7B.png
