Do you have an ultrasonic cleaner? That plus some vinegar or CLR may work well with the jet.

my buddy had an old wheel horse and he made dual wheels out of some old truck tires. He had those dual wheels and chains with a little plow on the front and it would plow through anything. That thing was a wheelie machine too.

Here is a picture of my 1055, only difference is it has 10HP Kohler.View attachment 26544
Nice looking unit.

I did some research and it appears the early K181s have a vacuum diaphragm fuel pump, which is what mine appears to be. That's what I thought it was at first, and that makes much more sense than the pump arm just disappearing.

I have actually stumbled across a site called Wheelhorseforum.com. It seems to be the TRS of Wheel Horses.

This thread has given me a good bit of info:

I had already done most of the checks those guys listed, but I did not know about the check balls, and I didn't hear or feel anything moving around when I shook it up, so they are probably stuck.

I probably will. Get a newer socket, and put a heavier wire on it.

Anyway, I got to messing with it a bit more, and enlisted some help from my one neighbor who does mower stuff. We got the main vent cleared, but it still won't run on it's own. The adjusting needle is partially plugged, and even gravity fed fuel is not getting into the bowl fast enough, so he's gonna run the carb in his cleaner overnight and I'll try again tomorrow.

For cleaning out the fuel tank, some cleaner of your choice (preferably non-flammable) and a small piece of chain inserted in to the tank, then shake it around for as long as your arms can bear it.. Works well.

As for the clogged jet, I like to pull a single bristle from a small stainless steel brush and use that to poke the jets out. Then use some carb cleaner spray..

The cigarette lighter comes in handy for charging the battery with a low amperage trickle charger with a cigarette lighter adapter. Just plug er in.

I'm more concerned with the bend of that thumb! :ROFLMAO: Although, mine does it worse. I was born with double-jointed thumbs.

I'm not double jointed, I just have flexible thumbs. I can bend mine back almost as far as you can.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Cool tractor. Looks like a fun project. I was going to recommend an oxy-acetylene torch tip cleaner set for the clogged jet. I don't know if they go small enough though.

I'll probably have it running on gravity feed sometime tomorrow, maybe have it running on it's own by the weekend.

I liked the older kohler engines. Had a 65 & 70 110 Deere, then a 77 212 Deere. Took forever to mow the yard with the 38 deck. 2 years ago I got a ‘42 allis C with a 6’ belly mower. Cut mowing time in half and a lot cheaper than a newer zero turn model (that beats you to death on rough yards) plus it’s great for other things, like going on firewood runs back at the woods. Don’t have a blade for it yet, been thinking about building one. Maybe do it different- in the middle like the mower deck . All the older riding mowers were better, wheel horse, cub cadet, older Deere. Seems like Deere parts are the most pricey.

We were talking about stuff like that, and I learned that despite the newer JDs using a "standard" Briggs engine, they bastardize them. The Briggs in my D100 and my grandfather's MTD are the same model number, but mine has a slightly longer crank that you can't get anywhere else. They probably do it to drive up prices on parts.

Well the carb fairy left me a nice clean carburetor on my wood stove this morning. I slapped it back on, started my fuel siphon from my gas can, hit the key, and nothing. The dum-bass fairy left the key on and killed the battery last night. I dropped the battery at Advance to charge while I ran some errands this morning, came back, and it fired right up and stayed running until I shut it down.

I have a new fuel strainer assembly ordered, since the old one is completely plugged with bimetallic garbage and not worth messing with. I got the order in early enough that Amazon should have it to me tomorrow. Now I just need to find the piece of chain I had laying around to rattle the tank with.

They did that to the Kawi in my old Deere. Carb is NLA from everybody but you can still get the carb for the Kawasaki version. Did they play with governor settings or anything else to require a different carb? Is it worth $300 to gamble on a new carb?

So I got a old Murray for free.99, they are too cheap to change anything from OEM. Engine, pulleys, seat (JD seats suck and are big $$) etc are generic off shelf parts. I also like that I am not sitting 3' off the ground.

I just mow with it, I have bigger tractors for pushing snow and bush hogging.
