I've towed a 96 V-8 Dodge Ram behind my explorer. I've also towed a 80 something jeep cherokee behind it. I've had the bed full of sand, dirt, gravel etc on my ranger. Also hauled a lawn tractor in the back of my ranger the other day... half on the tailgate because the mowing deck wouldn't fit between the wheel wells. That was a pretty funny site going down the road. It felt like it had power steering, which is funny, because it doesn't

I have a couple pictures around somewhere... I'll add them sometime later when I get around to getting them up online an all...

In the bed I've had over a ton on several occations...not sure of the exact weight because the yard I was getting material from the one time...well...their bucket scale was broke, so it was somewhere between one and one and a half tons...

I've also packed the bed full of things that I have no idea what the final weight would be. Once I had a full-float D-60 rear, two heavy duty D-44 fronts, regular D-44 front, D-30 axle housing, ranger tailgate, three 33" treads, my cap and 75# toolbox on the back. I've also had a 7.5, d-35, two sets of leaf springs, one pair of coils, a BW 1354 t-case, a4ld tranny, 4.0L, 2.9L, and misc assortment of other items in the bed, topped off with a chrome pushbar, 80# bag of cement, 75# toolbox and a radiator.

For towing, I've dragged my 88 BII on a car dolly, my choptop stock on a car dolly, my choptop in it's current form on a tow bar, and my one buddy's YJ on a tow bar.

My Ranger came equipped with the heavier GVW package and I use it.

I haven't towed much. The most I had in the bed was around 1300 lbs. I went to get a yard of gravel and the guy asked if I wanted it all. Without thinking I said "Sure I've had many yards of bark."....."Yeah a yard of gravel weighs 2600 lbs..:icon_surprised: I said "Ok, I'll take half."

I remember that picture.

Makes my back hurt to look at. I would have sold the car with it in there or cut it out with a sawz-all.

funny you should mention that....i happened accross a cardomain a while back where a guy had taken an escort GT like mine and chopped the top. i thought itd be neat to do the same, but yank the back seats and seal the "cab" up for an escort "elcamino" :D

I upped the anty for my truck last Saturday. We had to pull out our International pickup out of the barn lot so we could bleed the brakes/clutch (shared system) We opted to use the Ranger for its increased manuverability to back down to it. Hooked on to it in 2lo, just got the slack out of the chain and broke a tire loose, our recent spell of heat and torential rain had made the dirt almost as hard as concrete so I couldn't get any bite. So I locked in the hubs (front tires were on grass, that my have helped) and it didn't even blink, pulled it out of its ruts, up a pretty steep bank and into the driveway. It really impressed me because that IH is anything but light and the Ranger could have cared less, I guess that is what having best in class torque (143 lb ft @ 2500 RPM) will do for you :headbang:

My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
Heavest thing hauled-
27 bundles of shingles, about 90lbs a piece, in the bed of my 87. Hauled them 25 miles, while the suspension and brakes were maxed, the 2.9 didnt even really notice.

Heavest pulled-

My neighbor had a 87 Chevy 1ton dually 4x4 that had a busted tranny, I flat towed it 10 miles down the road to his friends shop.

later,
Dustin
