My credo
If I can't do it...find someone to teach me
So I am installing a Ford Taurus motor into a Ford Ranger (1994 BTW). In the process of breaking it down to replace the head gaskets I found all of this sludge under the intake manifold. Since I obviously don't want to start this engine's new life with all this in it, I was thinking of washing it all down with brake fluid before removing the heads to have them resurfaced. Won't all this just wash down into the oil pan or is there something I am not thinking of? As a side note it seems the sludge and discoloration are all on the firewall side of the engine (when it was in the Taurus). Is this normal?

Depending on how far you want to strip the block, you could pressure wash it. I would want to completely dis assemble it before pressure washing, but it would work great.

Or just spray up with degreaser and scrub it with a wire brush.

After you done cleaning it you should hose it down with WD-40 to keep it from rusting before it gets in the truck.
