Tire question. I have a 93 Ranger XLT SC 4x4 with a 4.0. I have the stock Ranger Deer Hoof Rims. Can I use wider tires on a 15" Rim. I'm currently using 235 75 15 now. Is that the max size they make for a 15" Rim?.

And further, would I be able to use 16" rims on this Ranger, if I decided to change rim size eventually?

Will my Ranger take 16" or 17" Rims also , if I wanted to upgrade without using a lift kit.

There are a few things you need to understand about wheels... this article has a bunch of information to ponder.

Ford Ranger Wheel Fitment Guide - The Ranger Station

You also need to ensure center bore. Some of the newer 16 wheels won't fit over locking hubs... if you have 4x4.

Tire manufacturers typically publish wheel width specs for their tires. I use Tire Rack website and the specs page will typically say a range of wheel widths that are acceptable for a given tire.

I'm personally not a fan of wheel adaptors/spacers.... many folks use them... but I prefer to just buy the proper wheel and bypass all that stuff.

17s - no. 16s - why?
I believe you can put 31s on your 15s with no issues and not lift (might need a leveling kit for the front.
The latter is what I am putting on mine. I'm currently running 235/75 15s like you. They look pretty decent, but 31s will be a bit beefier.

i think you can easily put 31s on your truck since you have an edge, like me. i have some 30s i am about to put on some rims for my wrangler but i might put them on the ranger just to take a picture. i won't go up to that size since my truck is a 3.0 and i like how its drives with the 235s on it but i would like to see it will 30s on it.

30x9.5 r15 is what i got. they are mudclaws, or some off brand like that but they look awesome. they are just for looks because until my won comes to get his wrangler back, he wife and i will just drive it on road so thats why i bought 30s. i am putting his heavy 32s on 18 inch rims in the garage and he can put them back on when he gets home

What are 30s or 31s. Is that a rim size width? I'm a newbie? Please be specific.

Those numbers are the outside diameter of the tire in inches. There is a complete explanation of the conversion process frommetric sizes to inches on Tire Rack. I'll be back in a minute and insert the link. ....

Calculating Approximate Tire Dimensions

I've used it a bunch of times, so don't feel like a newby - it's kinda fun figuring it out.

There is a tech section that you can spend days looking thru. One subsection is about tires and wheels. Check it out...

If you just want a wider tire you can run 255/70/15’s on stock deer hoof rims. I have a set, they are the same height/diameter as a 235/75/15, just wider. Awful in snow but great in the summer. I have them on my trailers right now. Great flotation tire.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

What are all those pointy things aimed at your tire, hanging off the fender?

I thought you had an extreme, like mine. Sorry, @Angry Possum, I confused your truck with another.

The tires I got are mudclaw extreme mt in 30x9.5r15. they were like 145 bucks each on ebay with free delivery.

Here is pics. Throw those on your truck and it should be plenty of fun off-road

I took that back when we had a ice storm here, one of many icy pictures I took. my favorite was of the windmill with ice hanging off all the blades. Proof that moving water can/will freeze.
