Intel i7 2600 with 12gb of ram and a 2tb hard drive with a double boot, so if something isn't compatible with Windows 7, I have a Windows 64bit XP OS. It's pretty quick:D

I think we need a WW2 thread and not fill up this computer one...just saying. I do love to read what people have to say about WW2 and good facts about it and whatnot.
Well, I might agree if it were an RBV tech forum. As it is, it's a screw around forum so I don't see staying on topic being vital. The exponential increase of computing power was the point of the WW2 topic, the war itself being the catalyst for the construction of the first computing machines (see also ENIGMA)--the cost being too great for the civilian sector and its aims--so I see it as being relevant. It might have sped up the advent of the home computer by 50 years. Without WW2 we could be bragging about the number of rows on our abacuses.

Desktop: 1156 i3 Gigabyte P55 board with 8 gb ram and a gtx260.

Laptop: Asus eeePC 10.1", atom 1.67 ghz and 2 gb ram. 3 lb and 8 hours of battery life.

Both machines run XP (64 and 32), Mac OS Snow Leopard, and Slackware 13.37 and surprisingly the eeePC keeps up pretty well, XP doesn't require much hardware to run quickly if you don't install/run extra crap on startup, etc.

Can someone refer me to a good barebones kit.. or a good tower.

my plan is to use it for video/music/surfing web and school work when at home.. and then get a netbook for carrying around.

i'm not good on all this computer jazz, i'm good at working with them for what i need to do.

i'm not wanting a $1000 set up either.. be realistic for what i'll use it for. i'm not doing hard core gaming or anything.

will probably use my 42" tv as the monitor w/ a wireless mouse and keyboard.

I have an old system. Asus M3A79T Deluxe. AMD 1090T Phenom II processor. 4GB DDR2 at 800MHZ. GTX275OC for graphics. RS650 Cooler Master PSU. It's old, but we'll see how far I'll have to go for when the game GTR3 comes out. I'm a HUGE racing simulator fan... www.gtr3.com ;) The link is currently a teaser, as the game has been recently announced. What you are about to hear (if you click it) is all in game audio.

Do you want to build your own or just buy one? You can buy old systems pretty cheap these days and most would have enough computing power for what you want to do...I've seen complete towers for less than $100...all you need is the keyboard, mouse, and monitor.

I find quite a few in the junk people throw away...been picking them up and stripping them for parts...but if you just want to buy one you can get them at just about any computer store...not the big name places, but the small shops. They usually take them in to fix and get stuck with them or the customer buys a new system if the repair is costly.

Right now using a Dell GX5200...

512 Mb RAM (soon to be upgraded)
Dual 3.4 Ghz processors

Pretty fast but the RAM deficiency slows things down...

This was in the garbage...someone tossed it because the monitor wasn't working...I love shopping~

They probably do...but you have to look in the right places...I was driving by and saw the monitor sticking out of a box...thought I could salvage parts from...like the stand...then I saw the tower and thought I could use the RAM...I actually just tossed it into the back of my truck and it got snow all over it...gave it a try...bingo! I was shocked...lol...not by the wet electronics though...:)

Looks good...:icon_thumby:
