built my own several years ago using very reliable components. still using windows xp. it's a compact one using a micro atx mb and case with an amd cpu and nvidia graphics card. has done very well. no complaints. boots up faster than my wife's $3k custom gaming computer and has way fewer problems as mine isn't over clocked or 'over' anything else. plays movies fine over my 19in view sonic lcd. well spent $400 for sure.

Homebuilt ~2.5 years ago (1/09)
AMD 790GX board (Biostar TA790GX-128M)
AMD 6000+ 3.1Ghz dual core (soon to be replaced with 840 3.2Ghz quad)
4Gb DDR2-800
WD Black 640Gb/WD Black 500Gb
ATI HD4670 512Mb
DVD burner
19" CRT
Win 7 x64/Win XP Pro 32bit dual boot
Logitec MOMO Racing wheel for my racin' games
MS keyboard/lazer wheel mouse (antiques)

Does everything I want/need it to do, and then some......
CPU replaced, now has Phenom II X4 840 @ 3.2Ghz. (7 days ago)
WEI scores went from 6.2 CPU, to 7.3. RAM score went from 7.1 to 7.3.
The 840 comes with a small heatsink, so I reused the copper/aluminum heatpipe heatsink from the 6000+ and AS5. Temps have yet to exceed 100F @ 100% load. Idles in the 66-70F range without CnQ enabled in a 70F room. Case has a side vent/duct to allow the CPU fan to draw room temp air for cooling.

I’m using a Compaq machine with older specification. It has 2.7 GHz, 1GB ram and 128 VGA. But it doesn’t show any problem and so far it’s working very well.

Im running a Lenovo laptop G560. Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium - (6.1.7600) cpu Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU P6100 @ 2.00GHz (x64) at 1999MHz gfx Intel Corporation Intel(R) HD Graphics (Pentium) 1.68GB res: 1366x768 32bit 59Hz ram: 3894.9MB hdd: C:\254.14GB D:\ 29GB

May not be the greatest but I love Lenovo and I will always own one. Future plans are to get a 1TB hdd and maybe upgrade the ram. Doesnt have the HDMI out put but I have no use for that. I fit my budget at the time, was on sale, and was better then the model that I was going to buy.

Doesnt get hot, still need to get a program that tells what its running at for that but I have an info. bar that I run from Night Iguana Software that tells me everything that it is doing.

Home build a year and a half ago for gaming and hoping I don't have to buy another one for five years.

Asus P6T LGA 1366 mobo
Intel I7-920 @ 2.8ghz(stock overclocking) chip
3x2gb DDR3 Corsair XMS Ram @ 1600mhz
Western Digital 500Gb "Green" sata drive(the bottleneck)
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4860 1GB GDDR5
Rosewill 700W Power supply
Windows 7 Home 64 bit.

All stuffed into an ATX full tower case.

It's the first time I've been pleased with a computer and quite an upgrade from the old AMD XP2800+ with 1.5gb of generic ram and three failing hard drives.

MSI K9N6PGM2-V mATX motherboard
AMD BE-2350 2.1ghz "Brisbane" dual core cpu

NVidia Galaxy GT430 (fermi) 1GB gfx
Sunbeam 580w PSU
ASUS VB172D Black 17" 5ms LCD Monitor

one year old dell studio 1558

core i5 M520 2.4GHz processor
4gb ram
500gb hd
windows 7 home premium
9 cell battery

No problems so far. My only complaint would be that the battery now only last 2.5 hours of use vs. the original 5 or so hours.

Has no problem running solidworks, Pro/E, autocad, etc. The most gaming i use it for is minecraft or TF2 and I have no complaints.

Oh and our 9 year old dell at home is still working fine. Just never ever ever cheap out and get wordperfect instead of word. it is awful

I used to have one of those but it was all one piece, pretty neat to play around with. In the late 90's it was already a dinosaur though.

hahaha in the late 90s!? :D That thing was a dinosaur by the late 80s! :icon_rofl: I don't miss them either, they were life vampires, everything was sssooooo slooow to load. And I remember it wasn't perception, they seemed as slow then as they seem today.

Have a MAD magazine from 94 somewhere around here with a BASICA program you could type in, after months of typing it all in, it would print out a picture of Alfred.
