Took the carpet up today and going to hurkaline the floor tomorow. Under the carpet is a gold looking substance. Is that to prevent heat transfer or? At first i thought it was metal but then looked closer and there are cracked spots and pieces peiling.

Will you be putting carpet or something back over the herculiner? If so I'd just herculine over it (stuff's a pain in the azz to get off) and make sure it seals up good. I'm guessing you are not putting something back over it, in which case I would definitely remove it.

I went at mine with a scraper and heat gun to get it up. There might be a quicker way to do it, but I'm not aware of it.

Paint scraper and a heat gun is the only way. the Herculiner won't stick to it. It is a pain but it's worth it. I've got so pics on the site somewhere...my profile I guess of the restoration of my cab. Took a while but it's worth it. I had rust issues so I put down 2 coats of rustbullit first

That's why mine had to come up, and I'm doing the same with rust bullet. Since the temps have finally dropped I need to get out and remove the rest of that crap and rust bullet the remaining parts of the floor.

The rust Bullet goes on real easy. I had to patch the plug that overs the cab mount bolt but that wasn't to bad with the glue I got at the dealership. The herculiner went down pretty easy, it takes at least two quarts on a regular cab.

You are very lucky then, mine does not want to come up no matter what. The biggest piece that I got to come up together was about 4"x4". The rest is a piece here and there.

Two quarts to do the whole cab? How many layers?

Offtopic: Anyone know how to remove the dashboard on 1990 ranger?

Very carefully. Taking take lots of pics and notes, and bag bolts as you go.

Yeah I realized after I had taken my interior off that I probably should have recorded what bolt/screw went where. Too late now though, so it will be a long slow process putting it all back.

Dashboard wise I saw the 4 or 5 bolts on the top, but are those the only ones?

two quarts will do 3 coats on a regular cab. I used gray which was more $$$$. probably cheaper to go with a gallon of black. Take out the rubber floor plugs gently so they don't rip. Hard to find replacements. I had to get some out of the junk yard.

Okay well I will have to go buy another gallon then. I assume our idea of a coat is thicker then what they say on the can. I guestimated the interior to be about 30ft^2 I was thinking that the can said it would cover about 60ft^2. Maybe if leadership school lightens up on me and I get a break this weekend I will be able to work on it a bit.

You should be fine with 1 gallon. Use that first before you go get more.
