My sons 2000 ranger has this on the drivers side, but his 2001 doesnt. Can anybody tell me what it is?

What's the worst that could happen?
Looks like the engine vibration dampener.
Many say it's useless.
I hadda cut mine off because after 200 thousand or so miles it was indeed useless.

torque strut/engine roll dampener.
lessens engine rocking & rolling

under power the engine rotates about the centerline of the crankshaft because of driveline stress.
the strut is placed off center so it has leverage against the roll centerline.

It looks like it doesn't work anyway. But your phone needs to be charged.
