That is the oil separator for the PCV system, I would not recommend blocking it off, if anything it needs a bigger one...

the grey-t escape
block it off and youl could blow seals, thats how the crankcase breathes. the pcv valve fits into the top of it, air is drawn into the engine by that hose on top of cam cover that goes to the throttle body.

I also helps keep oil vapor out of your intake. Not as good as a good catch can system but better than what most engines have.

I might have miss spoken... It's too small in my application (with a turbo...), without a turbo I doubt it's a problem unless you are doing something goofy :)
