My credo
Crossed threads are tight threads.
I ask in regards to both out there in the world, and here in this forum.

Its seems to me the most common engine found in rangers, and in TRS forums, is the 3.0....and after that the 2.3.

I think the 4.0's, both OHV and SOHC, are the least often posted about or found in rangers.

And swapped v8's are probably the most discussed here, yet least commonly found out there (at least in my parts)...

I would say the vast majority of rangers sold and running around still are probably 4.0s.

Probably like this...

1- 4.0SOHC
2- 4.0 OHV
3- 2.3lima
4-2.3 duratech
5- 3.0
6- 2.9
7- 2.8
8- 2.0
9- Diesels.

V8 swaps rank middle of the pack IMO. As far as most asked about/trouble prone id say 2.8 and OHV 4.0

Yes, 3, two gasoline and one diesel, had 2.3liter displacement

I would say the 3.0l, it was a mid-line engine used in Rangers
4.0l was a pay extra option
4cyl was the "I want MPG, not power" option

Oh the diesel...that would be 4 then cause wasnt there two different 2.3 diesels? A turbo and an N/A? One built by mitsu the other by mazda? In addition to the early 2.2 N/A perkins?

Good god. So that means there is 4 (or 5 if my diesel thoughts were right) 2.3's

I remember when i still had my '90 2.3, i went down my local "junkyard row" (4 or 5 diff businesses) looking for a radiator. Not one of them had it for a 4 cyl. I ended up just fixing what i had.
Seems i read somewhere that 6 cyls are much more common than 4 cyls.
