If you could find an old Ford Contour with the V6 motor. Those things are sleepers for real. An SVT option would be very cool

Those are seriously bad ass.
I'd very much like one but I'd never be able to afford to buy one cash.

Closest I could do is buy a caprice of the same year and then make a clone with the proper bumpers & whatever else

Eddo,

What you are referring to, I call a scratch-the-itch-car, something to sasciate the pure fun driving FAST experience.

If a Ford it must be then there is no question as to the answer; it must be Pantera.

I had one shot a number of years ago on a fire sale Pantera, because I let it go, I have conceded to the lose.

For a fast canyon spin I used to rely on my 87 Dodge Daytona Shelby turbo and now my 90 Dodge Shadow CSX. Neither a race car by any standard. Performance car driving itch fixer...oh heck Yea!

That is awesome!

I remember reading a story about a sheriff in a small town (i think in florida) who had a V10 swapped panther for police duty. I bet that thing flat out flew.
When I had my p71 and was hip to the panther forums and such I remember people saying that the California highway patrol had a few triton swapped vics.. but nobody anywhere could produce picture evidence Unfortunately.

I always wondered why ford never offered atleast the 5.4 in one. Seems it would of been an easy thing to do.

Haha that's a good way of putting it. Sounds about right, although it needs to be slightly practical as well, as in it can seat 4 comfortably, get better gas mileage than my truck(s), and my mom can drive it. Definitely doesn't have to be a Ford. I was actually looking into "luxury" brands from Europe, Japan, and the US.
My Fusion will be hard to replace. Its fast enough, handles decent, extremely low key, and is bullet proof.

Eddo,

Though a 2 door these fit 4 comfortably, very easy to drive. Would go unnoticed by the multitudes. Hardly anyone knows that Carrol Shelby is directly responsible for the precise track performance they provide.

Owning a from the factory stock turbo Carrol Shelby auto is always fodder for conversation.

Awesome, but too rare, and slightly too old...don't want a hassle passing CA smog checks. So its gotta be later 90's or newer..... or go exempt with pre '74 or diesel .

I made my son test drive a police interceptor Thursday. He is looking for a car to replace the turbo Veloster we just got rid of. He said it was a very cool and fun feeling car but to big.

I have always wanted a police interceptor. So smooth and comfortable on the road and can fly when you need it to on the highway.

And get decent gas mileage for a V8 full sized car.

Both the Dodge Daytona Shelby Turbo and the Shadow CSX we're available from 90-94. Very easy to work on with very nice stock HP to weight ratios. Both chassis are capable of 30+ mpg; the best I documented in the Shadow driving to and from Reno was a rock solid 37mpg! The Daytona is a little heavier and the best I've made was just under 33mpg all highway.

Both chassis's use the same power plant and have GREAT aftermarket support, even now.

I've been for a drive in one of those Shelby Daytona Turbo Coups. The only fun was when the turbo boosted. In my opinion Honda's i-vtech has more punch without a turbo. As far as parts, my cousin ran his into a ditch, broke some suspension components and he ended up trading it because the mechanic he took it to couldn't get any parts for it, but this was back in the early 00's. Also his was not a prime example, in fact, his was probably the poorest example of those cars.
