What interior lights on 1998 Ranger?

Hi everyone. Bought a 1998 Ranger 4.0 XLT 4WD 5sp about two weeks ago, and have questions about the interior lighting. All the dash lights are out and fuse #33 looks good and I've ordered some bulbs and that will hopefully do the trick.

However, and I searched the forum for answers, I'm not sure what else should light up. For example, the HVAC control area doesn't light up and neither do the door lock and window switches on the doors - but I don't know if they should. I also couldn't find anything in the manual about all the interior lights.

Is it documented somewhere where all of the interior lights are located?

Also, when press the cruise control "On" button, nothing lights up on the instrument cluster. However, i do see "Speed Cont" light up when I press "Set" on the cruise control. Should anything light up when the cruise control is turned on?

On my '11 Ranger, cruise control light only comes on when cruise is engaged. Just pushing the on button doesn't turn on the light. For your other questions, you need someone familiar with a '98 model.

Can you please let me know what lights up in the instrument when you turn your key to the "on" position? My '98 is 4x4 and I would have expected the 4WD Hi/Lo to light up but it doesn't.

On my '98 Ranger 4.0 4x4 5sp, this is what lights up when I turn the key to "on".

• check egine
• check gauge
• brake
• battery
• airbag
• door ajar

'98's don't have many idiot lights. My '11 lights up like a Christmas tree when I turn the key on.

more lights the better.....
I also like it when the wife continually blows fuses

Thanks for the response 55trucker. My airbag indicator also lights up. Is your Ranger a 4x4? I'm not sure if the 4WD Hi & Low should light up when the key is turned to the on position, but mine don't.
