That’s hilarious. Better phrased would be “GM wasn’t able to fix the oil leaks so Rover bought the design.”

the 2.0 ecoboost in the ford escape is really quick off the line and when passing. might be cheaper to find a wrecked 2.0 escape than a mustang.

I think Caterham, they will a similar kit car, sells their kit with a 2.0 eco boost and manual transmission. If you buy it with an engine.

Possibly, I was thinking if you could snag the mustang you would get the RWD trans and all the wiring to make it run too.

That’s hilarious. Better phrased would be “GM wasn’t able to fix the oil leaks so Rover bought the design.”
It would be funny if it was a joke, this is the same GM that changed the color of their orange grenades(SBCs) to black in the 80's to reduce the number of oil leak complaints- if the customer doesn't see the leak, they won't complain.
My friend had an XKE in the very early 70's, he called the Jag dealer in Manchester because it was leaking a quart of oil a day, they said that was about normal.
I rebuilt an MG Midget we took in trade on our first 81 Escort because the dealer's 6'2" tall son wanted it. When he drove it he looked like a monkey riding a football. There was no rear main seal in the engine and no front seal in the transmission- both used oil slingers. If he parked it nose down a hill, the trans leaked, nose up a hill the engine leaked.

for something unique i might think about supercharged 3800
I was going to suggest this too. Find a Grand Prix GTP or one of the Buick variants for a donor and make it RWD with an S10 transmission.

I'll fully admit to being a GM hater to the highest degree but 3800s were really good engines, if you fix the intake gasket issues they will FAR outlast the car they were born with.

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
In the early 60's Olds put turbo chargers on the aluminum 215 Buick V8, if you can find one it would be cool and different. GM gave up on trying to fix the oil leaks so they sold the design to Rover and they used it into the 2000's because it seems English cars are required by law to leak oil.
Yes. I always forget about this motor. Super cool.

It's gotta be the smallest American production v8, as well as all aluminum, and probably the first American turbo v8..

Awhile back there were a few longblocks on ebay for around 800$.

they sound awesome with a supercharger too, not too bad to package. painless makes a standalone harness for them, think other companies do as well

I my relationship with my 3800 series 2 MonteCarlo SS was a love hate relationship.

Biggest POS I’ve ever owned and it was great DD when I could keep it on the road. Spun a bearing about 60k. Couldn’t keep oil in it. Would use about 2 qts per tank of gas.

While the G16E-GTS and the ford Barra i6 are great suggestions, they are hardly options., I don't think they are readily available in the US markets. Ecoboost or LS will be best bang for buck. If you want a cool factor & V8 power the Toyota_UZ_engine out of a Lexus LS400 would do the trick.

If you want to be outrageous, in the 60's GMC had a V12 they used in trucks that was a real torque monster. Unfortunately it weighs 1100 lbs.

Since the Wankel was already mentioned, a boxer type engine to keep the weight down low: Fuhrman 547, Corvair Spyder, 906/911 Or for visual appeal a small V-12 like a Colombo.
