Do you have the thumb shifters with 2 per side, one up and one down? They didn't stick around long but I really like those. If they're Shimano you'd be surprised how tough they are... They do gum up from old grease and dirt though. Ideally you'd take them off the bike but if you flush the heck out of them with brake cleaner and spray some lube in there I bet you'll find the shifters will work well.
If the cables are rusty that's something to consider fixing but I'm betting if you clean and lube the cables and derailleur too, it'll be good as new. If ever every gear is off slightly you can adjust that too.
Yes, one big lever and one small one on each shifter and they are Shimano, if I remember correctly. I need to take the bike in to be looked over anyway. So I'll let the shop take a whack at it.

I laid out and staged all the pieces for the carport. I'll lay the base and measure for spacing and clearance for the house and the snowblower tomorrow.

I've done it so many years, I pretty much have a system for it. As long as I don't run into any problems, the structure should be up Sunday and the vinyl tarps dragged over and secured Monday. Lights and electrical done Tuesday.

Yesterday I took the Choptop loaded with tools to go work on the F-150…

Man that poor truck is getting rough unfortunately. Thankfully I should only need to get one more vehicle moved with it and anything else that needs moved, the green Ranger should be plenty capable to handle it.

Anyway, I got most of the torn steel cut out and a bit of steel fitted and partly welded. Was really aiming for more/better progress, but I was having an issue of every time I got into position to weld the back side of the radius arm, I’d get intensely dizzy. I don’t know what the exact issue was, if it was being tired or my position or the lighting or what. Tried it a couple times and finally figured I’d just take some ramps to put it on so I can get in a different position to weld. I also think I want to add a little more steel than my original plan and I don’t want to try towing the Choptop home behind it so I need to find a ride out there to finish.

I feel your pain on the discomfort welding. I've been working on my old Datsun the last few days and welding under a car that's only 16 inches off the ground is no fun at all. I've got bruises all over my upper body from wedging myself in between the floor and the car trying to get an angle, not to mention trying to wrangle the torch into some kind of decent position to weld in.
This was a floor support that had been used as a jack point over and over until it was completely crushed flat and cracked and rusting along most of the crush points. It's not going to win any concours but it's good and strong again and rust free. Yeah, that's gloss black paint, it's all I had on the shelf.

The most precarious and time consuming part of the setup is complete. The rest should move right along. Because of other projects that were completed, some of the deck screw lengths I need might run out.

Friend of Bill W.
Took the wife in to see the bone marrow doc. Her blood counts are way too low for more chemo. No promises and no magic bullet. Next a bone marrow biopsy.

Again, make sure your women know the symptoms of ovarian cancer - usually stage 4 before any symptoms. CA125, like psa for men, is a good blood indicator BUT insurance may not pay for it (after all, just women).

Started on my receiver mount rear tire carrier today, most of the holes drilled before the drill died, can’t complain though, Ive had that harbour freight drill about a year & a half, used the hell out of it. guess 1/2”’holes in steel box beam was the proverbial last straw.

I ran the wires out Halloween Baby’s ass, and weaved them together. Yeah, that was pretty bizarre even for me.

I took Baby off the step trailer, made a mount for Halloween Baby, and set her back there.

IMG_2964.jpeg

I goofed on the wiring a little. I ran a common ground, and then a left positive and a right positive thinking I would connect it into the brake lights, so not only would the eyes glow, they would wink with the turn signals. But I forgot the 97 has Amber turn signals and a separate brake circuit, so that was a no go.

So I did the next best thing. I wired the eyes together, but then I tied them into the third brake light circuit, and I have an interrupter on that. The three clearance lights in the middle are high/low lights. They’re on low with the running lights, but when you step on the brake, they flash on high three times quick, three times slow, and then they go solid. I figured that would be pretty good for Halloween Baby’s eyes too.

IMG_2966.jpeg

And, if you didn’t catch it on my local show announcement, I’m having a “name the Halloween Baby” contest. She’s going to be around all year, so I need an all-year-round name.

Winner gets haunted for life. The first and second runner-up get nightmares.
