Holy moly, that's a lot of plums. I have two questions:
1) Plums grow in South Dakota?
and
2) What do you do with excess plums? I'm assuming pickled plums don't taste very good.

I wasn't questioning that at all. It sounds like you're heading towards the gingerbread house and/or campfire pizza, instead of towards grandma's house. Unless they happen to be one and the same.

Local street festival after work today, a few interesting vehicles. love the red ford truck, whats funny is the guy he is running against for judge was also in the parade, with a orange pontiac gto convertible. Took a picture of the gator just because the dog in the back with sunglasses was comical

Yep, we have wild plums everywhere. I've got a row of them behind my shop that I've been tending. They seem to produce a really good crop about every 5 years.

No clue about pickled plums, that sounds terrible, we use them for plum jam! It is amazing. Lots of wild fruits to eat here if you know where & when to look and how to prepare them.

In addition to excellent jam, the wood is really good for smoking meat. Not sure what to compare it to... it's a much stronger flavor than apple or cherry but not bitter. I have to trim the trees every year so I have a TON of it. I made about $400 selling off the excess plum & apple wood this year to others for their smokers.

Peaches in BC, definitely. I'm not aware that Alberta has peaches. Alberta has sour cherries that do very well. Apples. Lots of berries.

I was being facetious, pine isn't good for anything including burning and building. Too smokey for the former. Unfortunately, it's about all anyone can afford for the latter.
