My wife would 1000% disagree with you. We have 47 totes (approx number, probably exaggerated) full of holiday decorations… and she uses every one of them. The go in the basement for storage and come upstairs every year.

As far as storage rental… I agree, they’re a complete waste of money.

Christmas decorations are exempt. I didn’t think I had to say that, and yes, you can’t have too much.

As I got older, I stopped putting them in the attic. I cleaned out the closet in the guest bedroom (I live alone), that became the Christmas closet.

Speaking of sheds, one of my summer projects this year was to build a small addition on the kids playhouse so that I have a spot to store our bikes. 6 bikes stored in my other shed is sooo annoying, I'm tripping over them and I have to move them all out if I need the wood chipper, tiller, pressure washer or the sickle bar mower... pain in the ass so they needed to move.

I built the playhouse out of junk and scrap lumber so I figured I'd do the same with the addition. It's about 75% pallets. Had to buy a few 2x4's, some 1x4's for trim and a piece of metal for the roof but everything else was basically free. I'm done with it now but but haven't taken a picture of it after completion. It is so nice not moving bikes!!!!!

You could have put the kids in the pallet shack and used their fort for storage and had a lot more room.

And, if you put a couple candles in a clear lampshade on top of that potbelly stove, it would look just like Robbie in Forbidden Planet.

Flushed the cooling system on Beer Fetcher. I have a T in the heater hose line and flushed it that way. It ran for over a minute and a half brown before starting to clear up. While I was at it I flushed the overflow bottle and got that clean.

After the coolant flush I went out back and raked up around the pool and flower boxes where grass clipping has accumulated. By this time it was to hot and muggy to be outside so I chilled out in the house till Major's vet appointment.

When I got to the GF house this time and saw Major I told her he is getting fat. She didn't believe me, he now weighs 240 pounds, and she asked the vet if she thought he was fat? She agreed with me and now the GF has agreed to cut down the amount of kibble she is giving him. For Majors frame size he should be between 200 and 215.

Lincoln’s Min Pin body style is such that a regular leash can slide right over his head if he pulls back. Even if you get the step in harness that goes around his shoulders, he can stick his legs out and pull out.

So I got a second collar, and I fabricated a little waistband around his skinny waist with a couple straps that tie into the shoulder harness. He can’t get out of that. The other advantage is that when that little waistband starts getting a little bit snug, I know I need to cut his diet back a little.

I wish somebody had done that with me when I was three years old.

No pictures but tonight I went to my brothers to get the big trailer since he had it from hauling the combine header to his place... while I was there I helped out by doing some welding to his tractor brush mower, that thing was haggered and it isn't even an old abused unit... not light duty but not the best setup for heavy use... opted for stick welding since that's better on 1/8" plate to 3/16" thick angle than the 100A flux box... I'm pretty sure I went through 20 rods, there were cracks everywhere and I only dealt with the rear 2' of the 6' mower... Not sure I've done overhead stick welding before but for the most part it was better than I expected, started out external from the top but ended up underneath the thing...

Tomorrow morning I get to go pick up a donor Camry to use for the engine for the wife's car, it's a spring chicken at 114k miles but got rear ended so totaled, $1k isn't the worst I could do on a replacement engine, get to part it out for a bit and keep some parts for spares then scrap the rest... better than one of the import $1600 engines from Japan I imagine...

My nature is pushy, but that’s not my intent. A couple more thoughts.

110/220 single phase is not rocket science, not hard, not complex. You can buy outlets for less than a dollar each, you can buy boxes for a dollar and a half, etc. The panel cost a little bit, and the copper wire is never getting any cheaper. It’s a whole lot easier to do before you put a lot of stuff in the way. The outlets and switches are so cheap, I would never buy anything but new. On the wire and the panel as long as you just inspect it (a common sense inspection), and it’s not damaged, take the break.

Having said that, put in twice the size panel and twice as many outlets as you think.

As far as the offsite rental, my two cents is to get rid of it. I rented one many moons ago for a period of five or six years. I used very little of what I stored offsite, and when I finally got rid of the rental, I threw most of it away. I could’ve easily purchased anything I actually did use out of there brand new five times over for the amount I paid rental.

Ditto putting stuff in your attic or your basement. I got hit in a tornado in 98, and everything I put in the attic got carried straight out to the curb for disposal. If you have a box in your hand, and you’re heading for the attic, or the basement, or thinking of storing it in a rental, carry it straight out to the curb.

The main reason I got it was to close down the offsite rental. my house and garage really does not have the storage for most of the stuff like the lawnmower/ kayaks/ bikes and still have a useable garage. So for 5700 bucks, I got extra storage on my property, and will be able to eventually reclaim my two car garage and store *gasp* two cars in it, (or an SUV and a Ranger). My goal is to empty the offsite storage by the end of October. that will be the year anniversary. I originally got the offsite storage becaause I was getting divorced and we were selling the house, so we needed storage to put things in. I had two offsite lockers, got one cleaned out at the end of June and turned back in. As I bring stuff back from the offsite, I am evaluating whether or not to pitch, sell, or keep each item. most of what I have now is christmas stuff, some lumber (keeping for future products) and miscellaneous stuff/ Ranger and Buick parts (which I will likely get rid of, especially the Buick stuff as I no longer have it) and a few tools that I don't use often, but do use occasionally. Got a bunch of small pvc pipe from the irrigation system in the house I sold. it pulled up with some shrubs/ trees that I got rid of. probably going to get rid of it as it takes up more space than it is worth.

Electrical. I hear you on getting it done while the shed is empty. need some money for wire and sub panel. I will have an electrician wire the shed to the subpanel, and will likely put outlets every 4 feet down each side of the shed plus two in the ceiling and one in each loft. the ceiling/ loft outlets will be switched and I will plug some shop lights into them. BJ's warehouse has 4' LED shop lights for a hair under 20 bucks, I figure 4 of them, one for each loft and two for the main part. I bought two of them for my house that I sold in May,and was pretty impressed with the light that they put out. and being able to plug them in, if they go bad, it is a 5 minute or less job to replace them. Lowes has a 10 pack of outlets for about 10 bucks too, so yeah outlets and switches are cheap. so while it is easier to do empty, will have to do the electric stuff a bit down the road.

My main goal is to get the garage cleared out this weekend enough that I can put the Ranger in it so I can work on the brakelines and master cylinder to get it safe to drive down to KY...

Yesterday was a big day. Guy came to scrap the 4 no-title vehicles on my property. Brought a tracked skid steer loader with forks and a couple guys. They chopped all 4 in half, loaded them up and hauled them off. Two loads. I got to use the machine in between the two loads and he said he would be back this morning for the machine so I ran it until I was worn out and got probably 90% or so of the stuff that forks makes an easy task out of done. On both my property and my parents. So glad to have that opportunity. Today, is a rest day though. Feel like I got run over by that machine, stabbed with the forks, loaded up and hauled off to the scrap yard. Dad isn’t in any better shape, but this was a huge step forward.

If you don’t get to dealing with the electrical before next spring, maybe we can work something out. 100 amp feed should be a 220 feed, so you just need a subpanel and go to it. If you use a panel with a breaker, no need for a separate disconnect, your breakers at both the main panel and the sub panel negate that unless the whips aren’t long enough to make it to feeding a sub panel although in that case you could put in a splice box and save a couple bucks that way.

After musical vehicles, I did my 99% semiannual wash on Big Red, the F250. Holy cow that’s a lot of real estate!

Last year, I gently sanded the entire cap and sprayed it with polyurethane clear coat. It’s all gone sour so I have to do it again. It’s my understanding the water base does not yellow like the oil base but I’m going to do a little more research. I’m thinking I’m going to get a quart of whatever, and roll it on this time so it’s as thick as plate. The cap still looks good, but the top is warped like the Appalachian mountains, so a little orange peel in the clear coat isn’t going to hurt anything.

The truck is still close to showroom, but I have a little hazing on the hood and on the roof from it’s sitting outside. It almost killed me to wash it, but instead of doing my “improvements,” I’m going to try to rub out 2 or 3 ft.² every time I’m out there and focus on the Lincolns.

I didn’t realize until I was getting organized, but other than turning them over and warming them up, I haven’t driven the 78 and 87 in the carport in more than a year. One of the town cars is just going to have to go, but I hate the part with them!

Got the donor Camry, no issues other than dealing with dumb people in traffic... there's a good reason I avoid Portland, got passed in no passing zones, cut off countless times, one to the point of skidding and tire smoke since I had tamed the trailer brakes down a touch while it was unloaded...
