Great time to do donuts?

Seriously, thanks for the warning and I already had that in mind. Not only is the back really light, but I have a lunchbox locker back there, too. Almost thought about removing the rear drive shaft and just use front wheel drive for safety. That's too much trouble for just a day or two of bad weather driving. My route to work is all back roads.
It will be fine

I would board over the tires though

Last night I did a long overdue oil change on the '97, I have no idea how many miles it's been but probably 5k...

I also took a 2x6 scrap on edge on the floor jack under the drivers door to pry it up to get the body lines matching and the door closing better, worked smashingly... adjusted the door pin back up where it should be and the door closes much nicer now with the body line almost lined up. I don't know what they did to that thing in the ditch but it screwed with the door hinge alignment, this was the only way I could see to fix it easy...

Three lasers....

I was able to see about half of a degree on my alternator....one 1.3 mm washer in the right pin ....

So far....that squeaking mouse living in my f.e.a.d packed up and left.

Hope it stays gone.

Giving my truck more money than it deserves.
IT RUNS! IT RUNS! IT RUNS! The bronco 4.0 swap finally lives! I'm nowhere near done with this car but the biggest hurdle is over. I just need to get the nice to haves installed.

After commuting in the '97 today after the door adjustment from Saturday, the door shuts fantabulously! It's been finicky since I put the door on and now it opens and closes like a Ford door... instead of like a Chevy door like it did...

'twas tinkering with a 2004 front diff that's dismembered, oops, I mean disassembled. figured it's about time to put it back together.
while removing the inner pinion bearing race the oil baffle gets trashed and I haven't found the exact replacement for it yet.
so I modified a different baffle to fit.
had to enlarge the center and put a bent lip on the outside. the hole it goes into doesn't have a perfectly square edge, causes the baffle to stand off the bottom a bit.
I know the outer race will mostly smash it down, but that might effect the preload torque. plus the old baffle had a perfectly formed lip.
oh, the baffle gets dropped into a hole then the wide part of the inner race is pushed down on top of it.
used my mini lathe to cut the inner hole, then clamped the baffle between the race and a large socket which left the outer
edge exposed, then some intricate hammer bashing to form the lip over the race.

and that's what an 'ol retired guy does for fun.

how's it look? I made 2 of 'em.

damn, just noticed I made it up-side-down :dntknw:

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Looks a lot like a reducing washer for electrical conduit. They come in a bunch of different sizes.

yes it does. searching the mfg # brings up a Dana 30 baffle.
considering it spaces the inner race, a couple thous' variation in thickness may cock the race and nobody wants a cocked race.
they only cost $2 at Summit, so what da heck, I bought 4 with plans on screwing up the first 2.
it does fit as is, but leaves less gap than the baffle in my 2000. I was concerned with a smaller gap keeping too much lube and leaking out the seal.
the purpose of this baffle is to restrict oil from leaving the area immediately behind the outer bearing thus improving lubrication.

here's a shot of the mfgr #, O.D. is about 2.82" I.D. 1.44"

my son and i drove hte heck out of the ranger this weekend. we drove to san antonio on sunday to look at a car for him. than drove back without the car because it was junk. then yesterday we drove to harlingen to look at a car, and back again. with the car this time. i have averaged 18.4mpg with this little 3.0 and the five speed doing 80-85 for the 700ish miles we did those two days.

we have been looking at mazdaspeed3 and focus st for a bit over a month. trying to find a clean one for a good price but its been a tough run till yesterday. we got a 2014 focus st with 104k miles and the st3 seats for 7300.

Treating it to a wash right now... I'm sure it'll be filthy before I get home but... gotta keep the layer of crust on it to a minimum anyways. First time I've washed it this winter as sad as that is.

If it makes you feel any better I haven't washed my truck since the end of last winter.

This is also the first time they even salted the roads this year, it's been a very mild winter so far.

The dealer washed my truck before I picked it up... 2 years ago.

all their trucks are fleet trucks there, even the mavericks. i guess they figure all the local parts places or whoever uses small trucks for runners will want some because they had a bunch white base model fleet looking mavericks and rangers there. maybe they sell a lot to guys from mexico though? this dealer is only about 45 minutes from matamoros mexico.

i don't know. it was a cool little truck and reminds me of the old brats from when i was a kid, just an extra set of doors on it.
